Panic Button

http://thevictorsreport.blogspot.com/2013/09/panic-button.html

Blog on what the issue with Michigan is right now.
I would buy this "it's the turnovers, stupid" analysis, if not for the fact that Devin just doesn't look good running the offense at all. It isn't like he's got the offense humming and then kills it with inopportune turnovers. He looks like shit all the time. He throws 5 feet behind Dileo on a cross barely beyond the line of scrimmage. He can't throw a ball so that a receiver catches it in stride. Hell, most of the time they can't even stay on their feet because they have to go get it. High, low, behind. Just all around awful. And I agree with Spielman. It looks like he's just devoid of confidence and locked up so tight. I hope Hoke and Borges can snap him out of it. If not, they'll lose 4 or 5 B1G games.

Nice blog

@alonzomoseley I agree Devin hasn't been looking very sharp, but it's all a confidence problem. Once he gets his confidence back he will be back to the Devin we fell in love with during the Notre Dame game.
@Diggler Cometh Thank you! Hope you keep reading.

Well I am worried.. I like Fitz running north and south much better then these slant type plays where he has to make a decision and a cut... Freaking run him north and south a tad more..

I think DG did marginally better this game in terms of throwing the ball away when he got in trouble and going down when he got caught in the backfield rather than trying to throw the ball in a panic. So, there was improvement there. Some may consider that grasping. His passing was complete garbage. There was that long pass into the endzone where the receiver gave up on the route and may have actually caught the ball for a TD if he had kept running. Most important thing is that he has got to get back in sync with his receivers, especially Gallon. Spend the next two weeks tossing the ball around.

He needs to feel that there's competition at quarterback position.

I still think it is going to be tough to get back in sync with Gallon if no other WR establishes himself as a consistent threat. If I was a defensive coordinator preparing for Michigan, I would have my team double/bracket Gallon on every play.

so maybe someone needs to set off the panic button and give devin some confidence around here again!

I am in panic mode that is for sure... I expected a drop off for the Cheaters in Columbus, and all they do is hire a coach that can't seem to get beat... Yet we seem to have had a huge drop off the last 5 years-ish.. It just is a tad frustrating to watch...

This team is better than what they have played the last two games. DG is a better QB than he has shown the last two games. Comes down to the coaching. The coaches have to kick some tail over the next two weeks and get them prepared for the B1G season. If this team fails in the B1G, it is on the coaches.

Agree

Something is off. He sometimes seems like he is unsure what to do

And then the line is weak

As I said these kids are better than this and gangrene coaching has to come into this

What is Michigan's signature play? Any idea? ML hit the core of the problem. The OL is bad.

Gallon seems to be the first option on 90% of passing plays and if he is not open, it's trouble. The line doesn't block well enough for Gardner to go through his progressions. The middle of his pocket is being collapsed way too quickly and easily. Couple that with Chesson's inexperience, Jackson and Reynolds inability to create one inch of separation, and you've got major problems in the passing game.

Our TEs are very good and they need to become a much larger part of the game plan.

This still falls back on the o-line most of all. There are just other problems I see on top of that.

The Darboh injury. So frustrating.

It wouldn't fix the O-line problems but one has to wonder how much of a factor that is.

I don't know why you guys keep talking about our WRs. honestly, the way we've struggled, better receivers wouldn't make a difference.

Gardner just made poor decisions; there were a couple plays where he held on to the ball too long or ran for it, even though he had guys open.

anyways, all this talk of a panic button from some of you guys is premature.

why panic anyway? if you can't learn to enjoy watching your team and handling the possibility that they can and will lose some games, maybe you should take up something less stressful, like knitting, or stamp collecting.

though I wonder if maybe some of you guys wouldn't even be able to handle the intensity of those past times.. in which case, I suggest you take up watching paint dry.

let's get a little perspective.

every year there will be a game or two where the team struggles by losing the turnover battle, the QB is out of sync, the line gets pwned, the D misses tackles, or countless other things that they have to overcome. thankfully the multiple struggles happened vs weaker teams and UM was able to overcome them and still win the game. especially the turnover battle when those turnovers are TDs by the D or happen where points could have been scored other wise.

so we can show a little hope, knowing that the team has demonstrated better play vs CMU and ND, that the timing of their off games happened when they did against the teams that they did. remember the Carr years and how frustrating it was when UM played down to the level of their opponent? maybe that has happened again this year and the team will rise to the occassion now that the BIG schedule is about to kickoff.

i'm not ready to write them off, and don't believe anyone else should either. these KIDS are a very young team and there were bound to be some struggles this year. better they happened early so that they can better learn from them AND since they happened when they did they can have confidence in overcoming future mistakes and still pull out wins.

no, not happy with the play at all. but the timing of this has been key. i'm happy it was the Akron and UConn games where they played like that as opposed to CMU and ND. Could be 2-2 if they played that way in the 1st two games. better to be 4-0 and have a Bye to get things fixed and have developed confidence that they can comeback from adversity.
