In many ways, this is good news. UM has its AD hole filled in plenty of time to start coordinating a coaching search.
I'd rather have Hackett in place now than another AD finally hired in January.
And again, in my humble opinion (and ESPECIALLY now) if there is nothing on the coaching search front come the week of Christmas, I think it bodes well for getting one of the Harbaughs. They'll be able to send word to UM well before that if they're going to be willing to entertain an offer to become the HC. If UM is bringing in guys like McElwain, Stoops, etc. for interviews the first two weeks of December, then I think it speaks volumes, and indicates that word has reached AA that both Harbaughs are not interested in the vacancy.
If no AD throughout December, and neither Harbaugh is hired, then UM just wasted 3-4 valuable weeks of coaching search time, which hurts not only the search, but recruiting.
I've been rooting against the 49ers all year. Going to start rooting against Mississippi State now too. No way Dan Mullen interviews for any other jobs if his team is in the playoff.
Maybe the people Michigan was after turned them down.
Can't hire a coach until then anyway, unless it's a no bowl coach. And if they're looking for NFL guys there's no hurry at all.
