Shooting at Congressional Ball Field

no update on Scalise's condition so far today.

article said the shot fractured bone, and more surgeries will be needed. the attacker used an assault rifle (meaning the rounds go faster and hit harder than with a pistol). He's going to be recovering from that for a long time, and could very well likely suffer permanent effects from it.

others wounded include a cop, a lobbyist (not a gun lobbyist though) and a congressional staffer. only the lobbyist was severly wounded and was also in critical condition.

when you read Republican commentators and congressmen discussing the shooting and lamenting "the ugly tone of political discourse these days" remember on separate occasions Ted Nugent and Sarah Palin threatened to shoot then President Obama, and Trump invited both of them to the WhiteHouse for a visit earlier this year. I don't recall ANY Republicans publicly stating that sort of talk went too far & had no place in the public sphere.

When the violent rhetoric is directed at Democrats or progressives, it's okay... it's a "sign people are fed up"

if you want to know why our political discourse has gotten so ugly, look no further than the guy in the White House. though to be quite honest, the recent trend started in January 2009 when all of the sudden bringing guns to political events and talking openly of violent revolution went from "criminal" to "extreme, but understandable." from 2001-2008 that would have fit the definition of "terrorism" though, and got you locked up for decades.

Profit:

- headline at Infowars today described the shooting as "first shots in our second civil war"

- NYT hit piece on Bernie Sanders included a line about how the shooter's message was "not far" from Sanders' own message. (Sanders had, by far, the most peaceful, least negative messaging of ANY candidate. He didn't even go negative on Hillary when her sleazy fans were trying to link him to the Sandy Hook shooting)

Just hold on for a little bit, Kawdup will obsessively scour the internet for definitions so you can see how it applies.

Only for you deathroh, as you seem to have the hardest time understanding them.

Not quite an obsession, really, but more of a hobby. I would put my knowledge of English words in general, without looking any of them up, against anyone here.

Obsession, however, is what you seem to be engaged in. Maybe I should provide you with that definition. Oh wait, I don't want to be so obsessive, because it hurts your feelings.

. . . although if you read all the right wing blogs, he gave a financial appointee a really hard time concerning his religion. Great guy that Bernie Sanders. So now I'll make one of those patented stereotypical nonsense statements that Michchamp loves. Bernie is an anti-Christian progressive socialist idiot, who thinks if Christians won't say out loud that he himself, and all other Muslims and Jews are saved, they couldn't possibly perform the financial duties of a public office. Michchamp's hero.

It would have been much funnier if that was a picture of Bernie doing that.

speak of the Devil... Nugent now vows to tone down his rhetoric after this shooting. Link to story.

I didn't read the whole thing, because I couldn't get past this part without laughing:

Nugent said the subject has reached a critical stage and said he ?re-evaluated his approach? to the tough-guy language he learned growing up as a ?street fighter? in Detroit.

LOL, yeah right. What kind of "tough-guy language" did he use back in 1960's Detroit street fights?

also, FWIW, the Democrats won the charity game last night, and are going to give Scalise the trophy for his office.

you can find the story online fairly easily, along with pics. looks like they all prayed together before the game or something and played an inane & absurd message from Idiot Trump on the jumbotron. He was too busy watching Fox News and tweeting to attend in person. what a stupid old man.

Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper did their CNN shows live at the ballpark, so the game was ostensibly televised. I don't know if MSNBC or Fox did the same because I didn't check.

The score of the game got fairly out of hand in favor of the Democrats pretty early on.

well, that didn't take long.

shame on Republitards for politicizing this political tragedy.

I wonder does the bill also contain language saying that lawmakers also should have to regularly go to a gun range and qualify and show proficiency with said sidearms, since he wants them to be treated "as if they were law enforcement"?

Or will they be another group of unskilled idiots spraying bullets and endangering innocent bystanders, also like a lot of law enforcement?

With as much arguing that goes on at the capital not sure this is a good idea..
