Deficits not matter when Republitard is prez, hurr

because conservative = dictator. except, aren't most of those dictators socialists or communists. oops.

Not really.

The Saudi Royal family ain't really commie.

A lot of banana Republic dictators that the US propped up for decades - under administrations of both political parties - are gone, but none of the ones we propped up were commies.

I'm pretty sure there have been dictator's throughout human history, long before "socialism" or Karl Marx existed.

Also, have u ever heard of Mussolini? Adolf Hitler? Franco? What about all the fascists we put in power, often overthrowing democratically elected governments to do so? Iran's shah? Batista? Somoza? Pinochet? Gee, pretty much most leaders in Central and South America going back to 1890?

Oh shit. Yeah, a lot of these are what I was referring to in post #21.

Both major parties.

One of the main reasons I'm libertarian.

The 21st century isn't the same as the 20th, and 2 bit dictators know no particular ideology, belief, or party.

If I was a 2 bit dictator, all I would do would be to just fuck and eat.

Sleep now and then and use the powder room from time to time.

It would be the same in whatever century it was.

gotta be willing to lift a finger once and a while to preserve your power. otherwise your daily orgies and gorging yourself won't last long.

either curry favor with large US multinationals, become popular with your populace, or give the army rank and file and brass enough baubles and trinkets to keep them happy.

The head of state doppelg?nger theme goes back to the beginning of story telling.

In Moon Over Parador, Richard Dreyfuss plays a guy who is literally offered the job of dictator of a banana republic.

or North Korea, Iraq under Hussein, China under Mao, the USSR under Stalin...

I guess you also missed the point - Trump specifically mentioned Bastille Day (that's in France) as the inspiration for this idea.

There have been dictators before your beloved Karl Marx existed but he didn't invent the philosophy. Ever heard of Bolivarian Socialism? Here's a list of early socialist thinkers I'm surprised you seem to not be aware of.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Marx_socialists

And I have heard of Mussolini, Adolf Hitler, Franco, the Shah, etc but in case you weren't aware, those weren't Banana Republics - did you maybe think Banana Republic was just a clothing store? I guess that can be confusing for some. And by the way, the fascist movement sprang from labor parties, not right wing conservatives - they're a lot more aligned with socialism than they are with capitalism. You knew that, right?

In case you missed the context (not surprising since you obviously whiffed on just about everything else) I'm talking about current/recent dictators - they're all socialists or communists - Castros, Chavez, Maduro, Ortega. Do we even know if Pinochet was big on military parades - wouldn't surprise me given his background but again, not all that relevant.

the one's currently running those banana republics do - or are those the "no true Scotsmen" socialist dicatators?

doesn't Woody Allen accidentally become dictator of some South American country in one of his movies? Are we still allowed to talk about Woody Allen with the whole #metoo thing going on?

Bananas from the early 70s. I saw it years ago. I think he plays a doofus who bumbles his way into being a revolutionary leader.

The biggest thing with Woody Allen is hasn't done that much that's been all that good lately - he's been nominated for three and won one Oscar in the last 20 years - pretty good by most standards - but the films - Blue Jasmine, Midnight in Paris, and Match Point had neither the box office success as some of his earlier stuff, and aren't considered classics like some of his earlier stuff.

Up through about 1998, there were several years going back when it seemed he would be nominated for an Oscar almost every year, or at least every other year.

I don't know how much he's effected by the whole Me Too thing - he's kinda been considered a weirdo and a creepy old perv for quite a while now anyway.

Me Too is being subject to an amount of pushback right now, because, just like anything that might be generally good, it's been subject to over reach and abuses. Catherine Deneuve and Brigit Bardot and Ashleigh Banfield are three prominent women who have commented on over reach and abuse.

Me Too, I think, suffers a little bit of the same fractured motive problem that other leaderless movements suffer. For some, it's about outing people that abuse their power, for other it's about raising awareness of the prevalence of abuse, and for others it's about changing culture along the entire spectrum from very serious abuses all the way down to minor abuses that impact gender equality due to their ever-presence. If you're complaining about stuff you wouldn't end someone's career over or screw with their reputation, but you just don't want to face every day, and it gets conflated with behavior that should ruin reputations, then it makes sense that there's backlash.

On the culture change end of it, I see an analogy to racial discrimination. It isn't right that black people get a quarter of the interviews for the same number of resumes sent out or that they have to wait longer for someone in a car to stop and let them cross the street, but at the same time, you can't very often go after individuals for contributing to the inequality. Most don't realize they are a part of it.

You are a reasonable voice, Gulo, so I accept the notion that statistics exist which substantiate your claims. Having said that, I have no idea how they exist. I have considered and rejected hundreds of resumes over the years. Which among them were black? And as to the car/stop/timing thing. Is that really a thing? WTF?

My conclusion from reading your post is that I am a racist because I don't realize it.

Stay on point everyone! !!! Hopefully the dumbass in charge because of fixed news network will reconsider .

Why the fuck is it OK for the Gop to run up the deficit when they are in power but the first thing the scream about when a Democrat is in power is the deficit. We do not need a military parade. How about we use that a millions that a parade will cost and help the VA. Or help military families get better housing. A parade will look so bad to the outside world. Let's remember This because when democrats win back power in 2018 hopefully it appears the left won't give a shit about deficits either.

In my opinion the only good thing that Trump is doing is pushing America toward a single payer system of healthcare. It is really the only thing that can save the middle class and people Below the poverty line because as we all know the Gop could care less about the middle class and poor people .

So why are you racist?

as a white American, I benefit from it, and don't actively fight it, (other than token gestures such as adopting a family at xmas or some charity donations)) although I am teaching my kids to accept all people as they are, and not fall into lazy, bigoted, and incorrect thinking, like "most blacks are lazy," or "their communities are bad and run down and crime ridden because they themselves are like that."

statements I've heard white people say, and a sentence later, apparently sincere, deny that they are racist. or preface such statements with "I'm not racist, but..."

No disrespect, well maybe a little, but you sound like just another Christian.

it sounds like you are describing someone that is prejudice, not necessarily racist.
