lead ND to two national titles.

had a long, tough career... as a HC at Northwestern, he and his assistant Bo Schembechler endured a 0-9 season. Bo noted the achievement because Parseghian achieved it without blaming anyone else, and managed to hold the team together despite losing each week. Bo called it "the best job of coaching [he] had ever witnessed.

he bounced back with a 5-4 season the next year.

Michigan never played Notre Dame during the Ara era.


The teams hadn't played each other for decades before.
 
He was the grandfather of a former classmate of mine.
 
I'll always remember Ara for leading Notre Dame to that epic 10-10 tie over MSU when he had the ball and time and ran out the clock.
