Exoplanet news

I don't know...The human race seems to be self-centered, arrogant, selfish, and will destroy everything including other humans to get what it wants. We should probably do the universe a favor and stay here.

when the interplanetary funk aliens land, and force earth to unite under one government with George Clinton as president, all all humanity embraces funk, and disavows unfunky religions, violence, greed, and racism we'll be okay. we'll be ready for outer space then.

Oh...I'm down with the Mothership Connection. Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip and come right on up to the Mothership.

Giant Exoplanet Has Extreme Orbit

A newly discovered exoplanet, three times the size of Jupiter, has been found to have a bizarre orbit around its star. The massive gas giant, known as HR 5183 b, takes 45 to 100 years to complete its orbit, which is highly eccentric, swerving in close to its sun and then whip-lashing out to the farther reaches of its solar system. Scientists speculate that another body or planet interacted with HR 5183 b at some time in the past and deflected its natural course. "Our universe is full of lots of weird solar systems totally unlike our own," Sarah Blunt, a graduate student at Caltech commented to NBC News.

The above video depiction compares the eccentric orbit of HR 5183 b to the more circular orbits of the planets in our own solar system.
