Cory Emmerton left Detroit as a free agent following the 2013-14 season.
2013-14 (Det): 18GP 0G 2A 2PTS
2013-14 (GRG): 53GP 16G 30A 46PTS

Detroit Career Stats: 139GP 12G 9A 21PTS

He signed with KHL expansion team Sochi HC.
2014-15: 60GP 15G 21A 36PTS *5th on team in scoring*

Ambri-Piotta of Swiss League
2015-16: 49GP 15G 21A 36PTS *tied for 3rd on his team*
2016-17: 50GP 11G 23A 34PTS *tied for lead on his team*

Won the Spengler cup back to back with team Canada in 2015/2016. The tournament has been around since 1923 and typically played in December.

Damien Brunner was an offensive powerhouse in his native Switzerland. In 2011-12 season the led the league in points.

He had an amazing 57 points in 33 games for EV Zug in 2012-13 before joining the Wings following the lockout. He had a respectable 26 points in 44 games with Detroit which was good enough for 5th in team scoring.

In the offseason he signed a 2 year deal with New Jersey worth $5 million. He rejected less money from Detroit.

2013-14: 60GP 11G 14A 25PTS (which are good numbers when you consider he only played 13:30 a game)
2014-15: 17GP 2G 5A 7PTS (before being demoted to AHL and agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with the Devils)

He promptly returned to Switzerland and has been with Lugano since.

2014-15: 20GP 11G 5A 16PTS
2015-16: 36GP 13G 21A 34 PTS (lost in finals)
2016-17: 33GP 8G 18 A 26 PTS

Brunner is now 31 meaning a return to the NHL is highly unlikely.

Datsyuk 5 minute major/game misconduct.

The penalty is for charging. As you can see, Datsyuk glided into the hit.

IMO.

It was a late hit, certainly not a charge.

SKA won 4-2. There was a total of 3 majors/ejections in the game, most were unwarranted.
Datsyuk's team in the KHL has just dominated the finals to win the Gagarin cup against the Eastern powerhouse Magnitogorsk in 5 games.

Datsyuk was injured in the video above (1:03) and hasn't played a single game since.

Kovalchuk took over captaincy during Datsyuk's absence.

Florida Panthers have received permission from San Jose Sharks to speak with Bob Boughner regarding their coaching vacancy.

Boughner was drafted by the Wings in 1989 and spent 3 seasons in the minor league affiliate. Eventually was released and played 630 games in the NHL, none with Detroit.

Sidenote, Boughner previously coached the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL.

Claude Julien, Pete De Boer, Paul Maurice, and Joel Quenneville all played for the Spitfires. Maurice was also an assistant coach with the Spits following a career ending injury.
Amazing that 4/30 (potentially 5/31 next season) of the NHL coaches all coming from the same OHL team.

Additional sidenote, Gerard Gallant who started the season as coach of the Florida Panthers was unceremoniously fired. At the time of his firing the Panthers were in a playoff spot and under Tim Rowe, the man who fired and replaced him, missed the playoffs. Gallant was named the Coach of the Vegas Knights.

Gallant played 563 of his 615 NHL games in a Red Wing uniform recording 467 points.

Mattias Ritola

At one point Ritola was considered one of the top prospects for Detroit. To be fair, the prospects in Grand Rapids during 08-09 in particular was quite poor indeed. He played 7 games for the Red Wings recording a single assist over two seasons. He was eventually claimed off waivers by Yzerman's Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ritola played another 36 games in the NHL all for the Lightning recording 4 goals and 4 assists. In 2011-12 when demoted to the AHL he refused to report and had his contract mutually terminated for his return to Sweden.

He put up decent numbers in Sweden until 2014-15 when he kicked up it to 32 points in 33 games. Again, to be fair, by that point he was playing in the 2nd tier Swedish league due to his team being relegated half way through his Swedish run. This past season he made the change to the Swiss league where he played for Fribourg-Gotteron. He played 27 games recording 17 points before terminating his contract and returning to Sweden where he played another 16 games recording 7 points (in 2nd tier Swedish league).

In 2008 Ville Leino signed with Detroit following an amazing season in Finland recording 77 points in 55 games the 7th most in Finnish league history.

Ville Leino played parts of two seasons with Detroit recording 9 goals, 7 assists in 55 games. During his struggling second season with Detroit he was sent to Philadelphia at the deadline for a defenseman (contract spot) and a 5th round pick (Mattias Backman who was traded to Dallas as part of the dreaded Cole trade).

Those playoffs he recorded 21 points in 19 games. The following season he recorded 53 points in 81 game. He than signed 6 years $27 million deal with Buffalo where he underperformed and was bought out after 3 seasons.

He started the Bille Beino clothing brand following his buyout from Buffalo.
