NHL All-Star Game

Haven't watched an NHL All Star game in some time but when did they start having 4 teams?

I didn't know about that so read up on it.. So the NHL only wants certain skill set players on the team? That's BS.

To be fair to the NHL.... Guy had no business on the all star team....

So what. Baseball has guys at the game that don't deserve it either.. All sports do.. Regardless why - the fans wanted him there. NHL should respect that. Didn't he score 2 goals and win the MVP.

What about this season or next or 2020.. NHL tells someone else to stay home. NHL has no business in this matter. Are they just going to start taking speedy goal scorers from now on?

And it sounded like the team he was on was forced to trade him to keep him off.. Bad shit.

First the NHL pressure him to decline the invitation.

Than he was part of a convenient trade to another division where he was immediately demoted to the AHL.

How can the guy be Captain of Pacific division of all-star team if he isn't in the Pacific Division nor the League.

The only reason the NHL relented into letting him play was because of the fan backlash.

During Domi's brief stint at TSN, about a decade before the Scott debacle, he warned that allowing fans to write in candidates will lead to a situation like this.

Didn't watch the games but I saw the jerseys.

Betting they were designed by an autistic 9 year old.

Here's the thing, unless you are hosting, it is very unlikely to have more than 2 player at the all-star game. Especially given mandate that each team MUST be represented which is why Detroit even had 1 player the past few years.

44 players, with 1 player from each. That leaves 13 for duplicates. Host typically gets 4-5 players per all-star game leaving about 9-10.

Penguins had ONLY 2 players at the ASG, you think half the players there had more merit than Malkin/Kessel? Both even have a higher PTS/GP than guys like McDavid, Ovechkin, and Crosby.

Recall that players love it so much Lidstrom and Datsyuk willingly took suspensions to avoid the ASG.

NHL won't be going back on the player restrictions. On a GREAT year a team will have 2 players at all-star game, currently, I would argue Detroit deserves 0. Writer should be happy with the handout from the league as is.

Couple notes about article:
Originally all-star game was Cup Winner vs league. Nothing to do with generating star power. Recall Detroit won 4 cups in the early 50s.
2015 Howard was selected but did not take part in ASG.
Detroit currently lacks ELITE skill. Forward wise there is Larkin, but he isn't quite there yet.
