Titanic and Lusitana

I think the article answers it's own question here:
Thanks to these attacks, along with intercepted wireless messages, the British Admiralty knew of U-20?s general location (and of other U-boats operating nearby). Nonetheless, it never sent a promised military escort to Lusitania, nor did it offer anything but general warnings about active submarines in the area.?

guessing no one wanted to draw too much attention to it, as it was embarrassing to the British.

also, according to wikipedia, everyone knew it was carrying ammunition and military cargo at the time of the sinking, making it a legit target under the rules of war. so it looks even worse, like the British would use civilians as cannon fodder.

Yes you are right . Tidbit . Lusitana ship launching was June 7th 1906.. my birthday. It is a good read .

The Lusitania was never boasted as being (almost) unsinkable, less than a quarter of the Titanic's 708 3rd class passengers in steerage survived...75 men (462), 76 women (165), 26 children (79). Plus it happened upon its maiden voyage!

There were other dirigibles (zeppelins) whose hydrogen exploded while in flight, IIRC, but everyone only remembers the Hindenburg.
