Game 66 Tigers vs. Rays June 16, 2017

The Tigers didn't just slug; they also put on a defensive clinic to support starting pitcher Daniel Norris.
Shortstop Jose Iglesias made two highlight-worthy plays in the fifth, then left fielder Justin Upton made a leaping grab to steal a home run from Corey Dickerson.

Offensively, the Tigers got contributions from virtually everyone,
including homers by Ian Kinsler and Alex Avila and three runs apiece from
J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton.

NOTABLE:
The Tigers scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings Friday night, the first time they've scored that many in back-to-back innings since Sept. 17, 2008 against Texas. The Tigers won that game 17-4.

The Tigers scored double-digit runs for the seventh time this season.
They've scored more than 13 twice, beating Seattle 19-9 on April 25 and the Chicago White Sox 15-5 on June 2.

Kinsler led off the game with a home run for the third time in his career and the 43rd time in his career.
Kinsler passed Curtis Granderson (42) and now holds sixth place all-time in lead-off homers. He's just one behind No. 5, Brady Anderson.

In the fourth and fifth innings alone, the Tigers sent 18 batters to the plate, scored 10 runs, banged out nine hits and took advantage two walks and an error.

The final hit tally was 13, including seven extra-base hits. Justin Upton had a double, single and three RBIs. Nick Castellanos had a two-run double and a two-run triple. J.D. Martinez had a pair of singles and scored three times.

Kinsler, Avila homer, Castellanos drives in four, Upton three; Norris allows 3 runs in 6 innings.

Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila continues to punish right-handed pitching as he smacked his 10th homer tonight and his batting average is well above .300.
Avila boasts a high walk rate and keeps being featured in the No. 2 lineup spot. He rarely faces a lefty pitcher. Add it up and Avila is among the
top-5 fantasy catchers so far and at this point he's a better option than
Evan Gattis, Russell Martin and Matt Wieters, among many others.

Rays starter Erasmo Ramirez took one for the team on Friday, pitching into the fifth inning even after it was clear that he wasn't fooling Tigers hitters.
The bullpen didn't even begin shuffling until just before he was yanked in the fifth. His exit was hastened after he get hit by a sharp grounder. He recovered to throw out the batter, Alex Presley, and the Rays said he was uninjured.
He was ultimately charged with 10 runs, eight of them earned, on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. His ERA climbed from 4.20 to 5.17.
