A 15-year veteran, Rodriguez has 437 saves over stints with the Angels, Mets, Orioles, Brewers and Tigers. He led the league in saves three times (2005, 2006, and 2008) and is a six-time All-Star.
Rodriguez had 44 saves and a 3.24 ERA for the Tigers in 2016.
But he lost the closer's job to left-hander Justin Wilson six weeks ago.
Frankie Rodriguez struggled mightily in 2017.
In 25.1 IP, the 35-year-old pitched to a 7.82 ERA, a 7.36 FIP and a 1.658 WHIP.
He walked 3.9 batters per 9 innings and had trouble keeping the ball in the yard, with 3.2 home runs per nine frames surrendered. In his last 15.2 innings, Rodriguez was tagged for 17 hits, 16 earned runs, nine walks and six home runs. He did strike out 12 over the same stretch, but the damage allowed was simply too much.
4 moves; K-Hit-Rod released, Rondon and Matt den Dekker up from Toledo, Alex Presley to 7 day DL concussion.

Francisco Rodriguez’s stay in Detroit needed to end, and it did.
He made a choice, now its time to face the consequences.

So Long Frank, hated the signing in the first place, won't miss ya. Hopefully just the beginning of the house clean.

Unfortunately a worthless move at this point. They get rid of garbage then bring in garbage (Rondon). Let me know when his ERA drops below his weight.

Detroit Tigers release K-Rod proving there is at least one brain in the front office.

There are currently three pitchers signed by Al Avila who are being paid to
NOT play in Detroit. Those players are taking up $19 million in salaries.
Mike Pelfrey is one of them. He?s pitching for the Chicago White Sox and
he has two wins against the Detroit Tigers. Mark Lowe is the other pitcher.
He?s currently taking up $5.5 million and is pitching for Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers in the Pacific Coast League where he has a 7.67 ERA.

Bruce Rondon has been recalled so who knows what fans will see when he takes the mound. He?s got a 3.04 ERA with a WHIP of 1.800 in Toledo.
His 1.1 innings pitched in Detroit (so far) have given him a 40.50 ERA with a WHIP of 5.250. It can?t get much worse, right?

I won't blame assmus AL I'll blame you for the signing in the first place pelfrey Lowe and now hit rod all be paid well for not playing for us, great job AL you should be fired AL

From the article I read, Avila got permission from MI son to make this move.. Do all GM need permission from an owner when making moves or maybe it's because he's still owed money? Just curious is all..
