The Legend celebrated the anniversary by slamming a stiff cross check on Adam West as that Legend was crossing through the Pearly Gates, slamming West to the cloud below.

"Congrats on gittin' here, rook, but doon't fergit who's boss, eh, ya cowled hooser."

Freep

The article mentions that the Howes spent vacation time in Bear Lake, ~15 Mi SSE of my family's summer home on Lake Michigan. Naturally beautiful picture-postcard perfect area in NW lower MI, that I haven't been up to visit in more than a decade now. Maybe next year.

We drove around Bear lake a few weeks ago on our way to Arcaida Bluffs. Stayed in Manistee...kind of a cool little town but NOTHING going on after 10PM.

Little River Casino?

Traverse City/Acme is the largest up there, and has the equivalent of a nightlife, all else considering. Lots of alcoholics who lived year-round in those small towns...now its feeling the Murkin meth/opioid abuse. Arnold Palmer built a golf course near TC called The Bear, IIRC, and there are many to peruse in the warm months, as well as skiing in winter @ Crystal Mountain, if you're a dedicated duffer or skier.

My ex-gfs who went up there with me while on vacation in the 80s-90s, we would always go to at least one drive-in movie @ the Cherry Bowl, and one outdoor orchestral concert @ the Interlochen International Music Camp.

When I spent the summers there while still of school-age, the fresh air and outdoor activities that we did every day, meant that sleep came early, anyway. When I returned to SE MI/Detroit after Labor Day, I could "smell" it as we approached. Took a week or two for my sense of smell to become desensitized...again. Another thing different about "Up North" is far less household dust and air-pollutant fallout on my vehicles, and the need to use home AC during the summer is almost nil...except for maybe one week in July.

October 29, 1947: For the first time, Gordie Howe wears No. 9 jersey for Detroit Red Wings. Until today, he had worn No. 17.
