2017 Playoffs - Astros electronic sign stealing - Now Astros fire Luhnow and Hinch

'I don?t think I should be held accountable': Houston Astros' systemic issues persist from the top down.

F'n Manfred let them off easy. This dickhead owner should be suspended for a year like the commissioner at the time did to the yankees steinbrenner.

Pretty interesting. I didn't know about the Winfield thing and George getting banned for life then getting the ban lifted 2 years later. It makes the Pete Rose lifetime ban even more ridiculous.

As far as suspending the Astros owner...it only has teeth if he is actually involved in the day to day operations of the team. I don't know what his role is.

Yeah Tom, Unless I went to look it up, I might have got the amount of time he was suspended incorrect.
These nMLB owners like all of them in all sports are filthy rich and have alot of financial clout and know professional people in many high places.
My opinion is Crane the owner and all of them in his front office knew from the very top down. Same with the red sox.

What scandal do you consider to be the worst in MLB history?

1. Black Sox scandal.

2. Performance enhancing drugs.

3. Pete Rose betting scandal.

4. Owner collusion.

5. Electronic sign stealing.

6. Other.

My thoughts on this are yeah maybe Houston should been punished more. But it’s not like all these other clubs aren’t doing shit either. Sign sealing has always been around. I bet the Astros batters may face a bunch of chin music lol..

My two cents. Sign stealing has been around since the late 1800's. There is nothing in the rules specifically against stealing signs. The rules do prevent a team from relaying that to the hitter by "mechanical" means or by receiving them through "mechanical" means. That is what happened with HOU and BOS. It is how they communicated that to the hitter.

The defensive team has always been responsible for "protecting" their signs. The catcher has to obscure the opposing team from reading the signs and changing the signs up with the pitcher as to further restrict the opposing team from knowing what the signs are. This is part of the game and always been a part of the game.

James McCann has been known to not hide the signs very well. His pitchers have had higher rates of Home Runs whenever he has caught them, versus other pitchers on the team. The reason team "steal" signs is the hitter's ability to have better contact on a pitch he knows is coming. He still has to hit the pitch, but the result is greater if he knows what it is.

WOULD YOU RATHER?
Totally Tigers

With another holiday weekend upon us, let?s have some more fun with our newest blog, Would You Rather.

As you will see, the choices aren?t easy ? and that?s the way it?s meant to be. But it is meant to stir up some good discussion.

As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons ( 4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

Emotions are running high in the Houston Astros camp. Now that you have heard from several players, would you rather:

1. Have the Commissioner begin punishing Houston players.

2. Have the Commissioner strip the Astros? World Title.

Vote.

I agree with JD. I'm getting tired of this story.

I don't think it's going away anytime soon. You have St and the whole 2020 season. Every road game the astros go to will be lots of talk, booing, vitriol, and off course chin music and hit by pitch astro batters.
