Cubs verses Indians 2016 World Series

Cleveland wins 6-0.Lead the world series 1-0 and now have recent WS history on their side in a big way.

They must have seen something in simulated games. I assume he dh's in Cleveland and pinch hits in Chicago.

And Hayward was hitting this probably would not have been considered. Rooting for the guy personally.

obviously they have an advantage up 1-0 but they don't have much depth in their rotation. The Cubs are going to pitch Arrietta and Hendricks, Bauer and Tomlin are back of the rotation guys

That Jason Heyward signing was a head scratcher, makes you feel better about our deal with Upton.

If he can manage to match his career slashes for several more years.

No sir. The Upton signing is far worse.

2013-2015 Away

J. Heyward .270 BAVG .335 OBP .407 SLG .742 OPS

J. Upton .238 BAVG .302 OBP .431 SLG .733 OPS

2016 Away

J. Upton .239 BAVG .288 OBP .459 SLG .747 OPS

J. Heyward .234 BAVG .312 OBP .345 SLG .657 OPS

Upton hit exactly where he should based on his past metrics. Heyward had an off year and hit 85 OPS lower for whatever reason.

2013-2015 UZR/150 (1,500 Innings min, 108 qualify)

4. J. Heyward 21.7 UZR/150 (Ranked #4 of all of baseball for OFers)
18. Y. Cespedes 12.7 UZR/150
51. C. Granderson 0.6 UZR/150

59. J.D. Martinez -0.4 UZR/150
70. A. Jackson -2.2 UZR/150
73. R. Davis -2.9 UZR/150
75. M. Joyce -3.1 UZR/150
76. J. Upton -3.3 UZR/150
78. A. Gose -3.7 UZR/150
92. C. Maybin -6.3 UZR/150
95. T. Hunter -8.8 UZR/150
105. Av. Garcia -14.4 UZR/150

2016 UZR/150

J. Heyward 21.6 UZR/150
J. Upton -3.1 UZR/150

They both did what was expected defensively.

Heyward is 25 runs better defensively than Upton. That is at least 2.5-5 Wins better. They both provide basically they same offensive production on average. I would trade Upton straight up for Heyward and fill we robbed the Cubs.

Our pitchers wouldn't know what to do if they had a defense playing behind them. We were 29th of 30 teams in OF UZR/150. We were 25th in team UZR/150 and 29th in Defensive Runs Saved.

Team UZR/150
1. CHC (103-58)
2. LAA (74-88)
3. CLE (94-67)
4. SFG (87-75)
5. KCR (81-81)

30. OAK (69-93)
29. MIL (73-89)
28. ARZ (69-93)
27. MIN (59-103)
26. SDP (68-94)
25. DET (86-75)

from another thread

Since Ausmus has become manager, the Detroit Tigers lead all of baseball by a substantial amount in Blown Quality Starts. We have relievers that come to DET and then post their worst career ever. Coincidence? Personally, I don't think so.

maybe this is the answer?

Maybe. Or is it that Brad leads all of baseball with having relievers come in in the middle of the inning and not at the top of an inning?

shitty pitchers and a bad defense or the manager? I think I'll go with the shitty players.

It isn't an either or equation. It really is a combination of many things. You are the one trying to make it just about the players.

TD ...Did you miss where he said bring the pitchers in to start the inning or in in the middle. It's called managing the relief pitchers and putting players in the best opportunity to win that game. Brad surely needs to improve on this in my opinion.

And we need to improve the Outfield defense because it's really bad.

not just about the players...just 98-99% the players fault.

Players are who they are talent-wise. They are not at "fault". Yet, managers can have an impact by putting them in a position to succeed, or fail. Statistically, there are players who performed better after they left the Tigers or better before coming here. How on earth do you explain this?

Blown Quality Starts isn't a reflection of the bull pen as it is about the usage by the manager. Ignoring or discounting this doesn't change the fact that it is a problem. Saying it is 98-99% the players is missing the big picture.

I think you may have answered it already

I really think the Indians needed to take game 2 in order to win the series. Cubs will win

So there difference between the Tigers blown quality starts and blown quality starts by the Dodgers, Indians, nationals, is managerial? saying that assumes that all bullpen pitchers are of equal ability.
