Notable:
Justin Upton now has 10 games in which he has driven in three or more runs this season. He went to 2-for-4 with three runs scored, a walk and three RBIs on Friday night.

Tigers outfielder Mikie Mahtook has quietly put together an eight-game hitting streak dating to May 31. He's hitting .455 (10-for-22) over that stretch.

Tigers starter Michael Fulmer is making his first start in nine days after experiencing mild shoulder inflammation in his last start. He received a cortisone injection and said he felt fine in his mid-start side sessions.
He pitched against the Rays April 18 in Tampa, giving up three earned runs in six innings in a 5-1 loss at Tropicana Field.

Rays starter Chris Archer struck out but gave up four runs in five innings during his last outing against the Tigers on April 19 in St. Petersburg.
He's 1-2 with a 3.63 ERA in seven career starts against the Tigers.
This will be Archer's third career start at Comerica. He gave up six runs on eight hits in three innings here on May 22, 2016, his last appearance.

Andrew Romine (5-for-12) has the highest average of any current Tiger with at least 10 at-bats against Archer. Ian Kinser (3-for-22 with eight strikeouts) has struggled.

The Detroit Tigers are using their newly freed-up designated hitter spot to give J.D. Martinez a day off his feet.
Martinez will be the DH on Saturday, while Mikie Mahtook will play right field.
Mahtook has an eight-game hitting streak dating to May 31.
Andrew Romine will play third to give Nicholas Castellanos a day off. Castellanos is 4-for-17 with nine strikeouts in his career against Archer.

Gameday.

This game is not on MLB extra innings, and is not on the Fox station I get.
So FoxSucks is pulling their monopoly of the airwaves and squeezing a couple of games out. I guess you guys in Detroit have it on one of your fox stations, FS1?

I got it on FS1 in NE Ohio. One of the few non vs Cleveland games I get to watch. Double play ball is bailing out Fulmer so far.

Just turned the game on. What's with the baby blue caps? Is it a father's day thing or something?

Miguel Cabrera hit a home run in the sixth inning to snap a 1-1 tie, but the Rays answered back with two in the seventh.
He went 103 plate appearances between his fifth and six home runs this season.
He only waited seven plate appearances before whacking No. 7. His 385-foot blast to right field off Archer leading off the sixth inning, which put the Tigers up 2-1.

The Tigers attempted a rally in the ninth. The Tigers nearly had two runners on and nobody out for the top of their order against Colome in the ninth,
Mikie Mahtook reached on an infield single, but a challenge of Jose Iglesias' bunt down the first-base line overturned what was originally ruled a single.
A 47-second review showed Colome's throw to first barely beat Iglesias.
Kinsler flied out and Alex Avila grounded out sharply to end the game.

NOTABLE:
Tigers starter Michael Fulmer pitched into the seventh inning, but walked one too many batters on Saturday. He led off the seventh with a walk to Steve Souza after getting ahead in the count 0-2. Pitching on eight days of rest, after getting treatment for shoulder bursitis,it was his fourth free pass of the game and the only one that came around to score.

Kinsler was 3-for-24 with eight strikeouts in his career against Rays starter Chris Archer when he hit a two-out double on a 3-2 count to drive in the Tigers' first run in the fifth.

Several Tigers have had a rough time against Archer. Third baseman Nicholas Castellanos didn't start, in part, to give him a day off against a pitcher that he's struggled against in the past.

Miguel Cabrera's home run in the sixth inning was the 453rd of his career, surpassing Carl Yastrzemski for 37th place in baseball history.
Cabrera is now 8-for-21 with two home runs and five doubles on the current homestand.
Cabrera's home run was his 26th opposite-field home run since 2015, according to Statcast?, moving him out of a tie with Josh Donaldson for third-most among right-handed hitters in that span.
Fellow Tiger J.D. Martinez is second with 28. Oakland's Khris Davis leads with 33.

Miggy is nine home runs behind Adam Dunn and Jose Canseco, who are tied for 35th place with 462.

Tigers right fielder Mikie Mahtook's hit streak reached nine games with his single in the ninth inning.

Boxscore.

ROARS:
Michael Fulmer: Pitched a solid 6 2/3 innings, scattering six hits and four walks.

Miguel Cabrera: Is the real (albeit slightly hurt) Miggy back? He led off the sixth with a solo homer, so let?s hope so.

Shane Greene and Francisco Rodriguez: They kept the Tigers in this one.

BONUS ROAR:
Victor Martinez: For getting out of the hospital. Get well soon!

HISSES:
J.D. Martinez: He went 0-3 (albeit with a walk).

Jose Iglesias: Same sort of thing: 0-3 (albeit with a sacrifice bunt).

STATISTICS AND NOTES:
In 22 games from May 21 through June 14, Miguel Cabrera had no home runs. He?s had two in his past three, plus a pair of doubles for good measure.

Alex Wilson allowed his fourth inherited runner this year (out of 13) to score. That?s 31 percent ... is that a lot? It seems like a lot to me.

From his May 5 start through today?s, Chris Archer has struck out 85 in 59 innings. Impressive.

Jumbo Diaz is the first person in Major League Baseball with that first name since Jumbo Brown retired in 1941. Brown was no slouch at 6?4, 295.
(N.B. neither player?s actual first name is Jumbo.)

Very tough loss.. had company over and had the game muted. Good teams find ways to win these close games at home . Very frustrating as this team cannot get any type of winning streak going. Tough loss. .
