Ulf Samuelsson had long career as a hard hitting, pest defenceman who could also contribute offensively. Ulf played 1080 regular reason games recording 57 goals and 275 assists for 332 points and a whopping 2453 PIM (26th most in NHL history). Originally drafted in the 67th overall (4th round) in 1982 by the Hartford Whalers He won back to back Stanley Cups with the 91/92 Penguins. During his NHL career he played for the Hartford Whalers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and the Philadelphia Flyers.

At the deadline of the 1998/9 season an injured Ulf Samuelsson was traded to Detroit from the New York Rangers. He played 4 regular season games and 9 in the playoffs where he recorded 3 assists. By this time Ulf wasn't exactly the same player he once was. In the offseason he signed with the Flyers retiring after scoring a mere 3 points in 49 games.

Ulf started coaching in 2003-4. During 2005-6 he was an assistant coach for the Ranger's AHL affiliate the Hartford Wolf Pack. From 2006-11 he was an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes. From 2011-13 he was the head coach of MODO hockey club in Sweden before returning to the Rangers as an assistant between 2013-16. For the 2016-17 season he was head coach of the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Chicago Wolves. Most recently, he was named an assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks. Joel Quenneville played with Samuelsson in the 80s for the Hartford Whalers. Kevin Dineen another assistant coach for Quenneville in Chicago also played for the Whalers in the 80s.

His son Henrik was drafted in 2012 (1st round, 27th overall) by the Arizona Coyotes.
His other older son Philip was drafted in 2009 (2nd round, 61st overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In December of 2014 he was traded to Arizona playing with his younger brother Henrik in the AHL. This past trade deadline he was dealt to Carolina Hurricanes for another prospect. Coincidentally, Ulf was the coach of the Carolina's AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers
His daughter Victoria is playing in the NCAA for Penn. State.
Finally his youngest son Adam is eligible to be drafted in 2018.

Looks like Hossa is joining Franzen on permanent LTIR.

While Hossa has a caphit of $5.25 million until end of 2020-21 season, his salary dives down to a single million per season for its remaining duration. Will be missing the 2017-18 season with an undisclosed skin condition. I am skeptical this isn't just an early retirement with a way to protect Chicago from the recapture penalty.

Landon Ferraro signed a 2 years $1.4 mil 2-way contract with Minnesota.

Surprised how much they guaranteed to play him in the minors. Back when capgeek was a thing they normally showed 10% of NHL value if player is in minors.

Cory Emmerton and Carlo Colaiacovo named to Canadian roster to the Nikolai Plushkov tournament to be played in late August.

Emmerton spent just over two seasons with the Red Wings before being demoted to Grand Rapids in the last year of his contract. He recorded 21 points in 141 games with Detroit playing primarily as a 4th liner.

In 2014-15 he played for Sochi HC recording 29 points in 60 games. It was the first season of the Sochi HC in the KHL league. The past two seasons he spent with Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss league recording 26 goals, 44 assists, for 70 points in 99 games. He was tied for 3rd and 1st in team scoring during those seasons.

During the summer of 2012 Colaiacovo signed a 2 year deal worth $5 million with Detroit. Carlo had a reputation for being injury prone which continued in Detroit. He played a total of 6 games in the first year of the contract due to injuries. He was bought out after the first season. After leaving Detroit he spent 3 seasons between St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Buffalo haven't played more than 40 games in either season. Last year he played for Mannheim of the German league recording 24 points in 27 games.

Tom Renney the former assistant coach of the Wings (2012-14) is an executive for the Canadian team.

10 memorable moments from Bryan Murray

http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/ten-memorable-moments-from-the-career-of-bryan-murray

Murray was also the coach/manager who started the Wings playoff streak in 1990-1 during his first season. Having coached the Red Wings for 3 seasons recording 124 wins, 91 losses, and 29 ties.

Additionally he traded to acquire stars like Coffey and Ciccarelli. Most famously the trade to acquire the eventual fan favourite Kris Draper for a dollar.

Also drafted;
Martin Lapointe
Jamie Pushor
Chris Osgood
Mike Knuble
Darren McCarty

Pulkkinen's goal vs Anaheim in pre-season from his trademark one-timer from the left hand side.

Couldnt find any clips from the Vegas - San Jose game where he scored his first of the pre-season.

Perhaps he could crack the Vegas lineup as a 3rd line scoring forward. Hope the best for him.
