An ICE spokeswoman told Reuters five federal prisons will temporarily take in detainees awaiting civil immigration court hearings, including potential asylum seekers, with one prison in Victorville, California, preparing to house 1,000 people.

“To meet this need, ICE is collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), private detention facility operators and local government agencies,” she said in a statement to Reuters.

Land of the free (link):
Oklahoma now has the highest incarceration rate in the U.S., unseating Louisiana from its long-held position as ?the world?s prison capital.? By comparison, states like New York and Massachusetts appear progressive, but even these states lock people up at higher rates than nearly every other country on earth. Compared to the rest of the world, every U.S. state relies too heavily on prisons and jails to respond to crime.

We should add a new stanza about our willingness to jail people (especially if they're poor or a minority), throwing immigrants in private prisons, and using prison labor as a new form of slavery to "God Bless America"

good idea, right?

The Private prisons business model is a booming !!!! Man they love that free labor force !!!!

there are a lot of people in jail that probably shouldn't be. People with simple drug possession charges and people in jail for not paying child support (the single most moronic reason for getting put in jail)
