Submarinered to the cellar in 4...could be 9-11 games under .500 after @ SD on Monday...Fire sale looms.

The Detroit Tigers will limp out of Safeco Field in last place after dropping four games to the Seattle Mariners.
The Tigers' offense was held in check by a rookie starter making his MLB debut,
and the game was sealed when reliever Francisco Rodriguez gave up a grand slam to Robinson Cano in the seventh.

The Tigers have lost six in a row, their longest since a seven-game skid on May 3-9, 2016.
They were swept in four games for the first time since May 28-31, 2015, at Anaheim.
They?ve fallen eight games under .500.

NOTABLE:
Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler, who turned 35 on Thursday, hit a solo home run in the third inning. He has now homered in three consecutive games.

Mariners starter Andrew Moore pitched seven strong innings in his Major League debut and walked off to a standing ovation from fans.
He recorded his first MLB strikeout against Alex Avila and gave up his first hit, a double, to Nicholas Castellanos.

Since expressing frustration about his role to the media 10 days ago, Tigers reliever Francisco Rodriguez has given up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
He's allowed three home runs and has given up nine in just 24 2/3 innings this year.
Rodriguez hit a batter, allowed a sharp single, walked another and then surrendered a grand slam to Robinson Cano, putting the Tigers in a hole they would not climb out of in a 9-6 loss.
Rodriguez?s season numbers look like this: 7.82 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and nine home runs in 25 1/3 innings. He is 2-5 with six blown saves.

Forty losses on June 22. It?s been a season of inconceivable and inexplicable ignominies thus far. Not the least of which is the ever-growing list of rookie pitchers who have baffled and beaten the Tigers.
The list includes Zack Godley, Tyler Danish, Eric Skoglund, and Jacob Faria. And now, you can add the Mariners' Andrew Moore to the list.

Birthday bash: Kinsler celebrated turning 35 by continuing his recent power surge as he homered for a third straight game, this one a solo shot with two out in the third for the Tigers' first run off Moore.
Kinsler drove a 90-mph fastball a projected 398 feet, per Statcast?, over the left-field wall as Moore left a 3-1 fastball out over the plate.
Kinsler also had a run-scoring single in the fifth in going 2-for-5, and he now has eight homers on the season.

Webvideo Highlights and lowlights of the Tigers loss to the mariners.

GIBBY GROWLS:
In honor of the latest in a series of Kirk Gibson interactions with Mario Impemba that have helped Gibby grow on me as an announcer,
our Roars have been changed to Gibby Growls.

Ian Kinsler: His second inning home run was the highlight of a 2-for-5 evening

Miguel Cabrera: Miggy also showed up going 2-for-4 with a homer of his own.

Nick Castellanos: Nick had a solid outing going 2-for-3 with a walk.

Alex Avila: He may have only gone 1-for-4, but the work he did snagging a lot of off-target pitches from Daniel Norris earns the Gibby Growl.

HISSES:
Daniel Norris: He settled in over his last three innings, but never really found his command. Getting tagged for five runs in the first five innings isn?t what this team needed.

Francisco Rodriguez: The reasons here are self evident. GTFO.

STATS AND INFO:
Ian Kinsler hit three home runs and stole three bases in the series.

With the loss, the Tigers planted the flag of despair firmly in the soil of the cellar of the AL Central for the first time since 2015. F'N Booooo!!

This is the first four-game sweep the Tigers have allowed since 2015, and the first they have given up to Seattle since 1998. F'N Booooo!!

Al Avila is supposed to be on the west coast as the Tigers play in San Diego.
Hmm, interesting.
