Game 58 Tigers vs. Angels June 7, 2017

That has to be such a great feeling .. hitting a no doubt bomb!!!!

Nick just got pissed cause he was taken out for a pinch runner .

Threw his helmet and it bounced and hit Miggy in the head . Looks like he said he was sorry immediately.

Thought for sure I'd get to the car and there wouldn't be Ausmus or bullpen trashing after that game. Silly me!

Great game. Early stranded base runners were brutal. Crowd was really behind Farmer. I think tomorrow will be a good crowd for Fulmer despite the weekday/afternoon start time. Looking forward to it.

NOTABLE:
First base umpire Joe West, the crew chief, summoned the grounds crew at the start of the third inning, apparently after determining the infield dirt around first base was too soggy.
Workers applied a drying agent to the dirt and the game resumed.
There was no rain in the area, so any wetness presumably came from the pre-game watering. The Angels are known for stealing bases (the Tigers are not), so it's possible West's request could have been prompted by the Angels dugout.

Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler was hit by a pitch on the ear flap of his helmet to lead off the third inning. Fortunately it was an Alex Meyer knuckle curve rather than a fastball. Kinsler didn't look thrilled at getting beaned, but he ran to first base and indicated he was OK.

Meyer might have been a bit rattled, because he promptly walked the next batter, Alex Avila, on four pitches. Kinsler came home to score the first run of the game when Victor Martinez grounded into a double play.

Since May 23, three call-ups from the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens have combined to throw 27 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. Farmer (13 innings), Warwick Saupold (10 1/3 innings) and Arcenio Leon (4 1/3 innings) have struck out 26 and walked just six during that span.

Farmer's 13-inning scoreless streak is the Tigers' longest since Matthew Boyd pitched 11 consecutive scoreless innings on April 11 and 16. Farmer replaced Boyd in the Tigers' rotation.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers Shutout Win over the Angels.

Roars:
Buck Farmer: He did fantastic tonight. His final line was 6 2⁄3 innings, no runs, three hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. He threw 101 pitches, 57 for strikes.

Justin Upton: Hit a huge home run in the eighth to provide some much-needed insurance runs.

Hisses:
Tigers offense: Managed just two hits in the first seven innings and left nine runners on base total.

Home plate umpire Alan Porter: Few of his calls seemed to go the Tigers? way, and some didn't.

Stats and stuff:
Angels starter Alex Meyer achieved a career high in strikeouts with nine. His previous high was seven, a mark he reached most recently on May 20.
Buck Farmer?s scoreless innings streak currently sits at 13, after 6 2⁄3 scoreless innings tonight.

The home run in the eighth was Justin Upton?s 12th of the year. He didn?t hit his 12th home run last season until July 29.

The Tigers shut out a team for the first time this season.

Though he wasn?t credited with an RBI on the play, Victor Martinez is 9-for-12 in scoring a runner on third base with less than one out this season, according to records.

I'm starting to think miggy isn't going to get it going this year. It's a really strange feeling not expecting anything when miggy is up a lot this year.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Buck Farmer is the first pitcher in Major League history to win his first two starts in a season with scoreless outings after entering that season with an 0-5 career record or worse.
Farmer, who tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his season debut against the White Sox on May 27, beat the Angels on Wednesday night with 6 2/3 scoreless.
