Game 59 Tigers vs. Angels June 8, 2017

He didn't have any deception Gibson, the tigers just swing at too much garbage out of the zone.

If the Tigers keep playing like this it's gonna be a long season men...

Michael Fulmer gave up four runs in the fifth inning and two relievers combined to allow six in the seventh.
The Tigers were still close until the seventh, when relievers Arcenio Leon and Daniel Stumpf combined to allow six runs on five hits and three walks.

The Angels took two of three this week and won the season series 4-3.

The Tigers finished 4-2 on the homestand that began with a sweep of the Chicago White Sox.

NOTABLE:
Tigers starter Michael Fulmer has now allowed five or more runs in consecutive starts for the first time in his career, in either the major or minor leagues.
Fulmer allowed five runs in seven innings on June 2 against the Chicago White Sox, but he was able to pitch with the benefit of a big league. The Tigers won that game 15-5.

Nicholas Castellanos finished a triple short of the cycle. He homered in the second, singled in the third and doubled in the sixth.
When he returned to the dugout after the home run, a couple of teammates pretended to shied their face.
When Castellanos slammed his helmet in the dugout Wednesday night, the ricochet hit Miguel Cabrera in the face.
A day later, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said it was a non-issue.
Castellanos was upset over being removed for a pinch-runner, although another view of the incident shows that his slamming of the helmet might have been more theatrical than filled with fury.

The Tigers were 4 for 18 with runners in scoring position. They also struck out 11 times.

Kinsler and Castellanos each had three hits — Castellanos a triple shy of a cycle.

Michael Fulmer gave up five runs for the second straight start.
Fulmer allowed five runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings today against the Los Angeles Angels.
Fulmer's subpar start comes on the heels of an average showing against the Chicago White Sox on June 2, when he gave up five runs on seven hits over seven innings in the 15-5 win.
That performance ended his streak of 10 consecutive quality starts to begin the season, a stretch that tied Justin Verlander for the franchise's longest streak to begin a season since 1913.

Highlights and lowlights of the Tigers loss to the angels.

ROARS:
Nicholas Castellanos — as if to make up for his antics last night, he decided to hit something other than Miguel Cabrera, by bashing a home run and collecting an RBI single. Of course in that same inning he was caught stealing, but hey, no one is perfect. He added a sixth inning double to the mix as well — missing the cycle by a triple — as well as a stellar tag out at second base in the eighth inning. All in all it was a great game for Castellanos, which he needed.

Victor Martinez had an extra base hit. This always feels noteworthy.

Andrew freaking Romine, who got a single and also proved he can play center field by making an insane catch.

HISSES:
Dixon Machado — after missing a barehanded grab in the top of the fourth, Machado was unable to throw out the glacially slow Albert Pujols as he jogged leisurely to first. It ultimately wasn’t too big of a mistake, as no runs resulted, but it was sloppy fielding. He made up for it by hitting two singles in the game afterwards. No hard feelings, Dixon, everyone drops the ball sometimes.

Justin Upton — dropped a left field catch that ended up letting the go-ahead run score for the Angels. Upton, who has been otherwise spectacular lately, missed this one by fractions of an inch.

Arcenio Leon and Daniel Stumpf — while Arcenio Leon was strong in the sixth, by the seventh it was clear he didn’t have long-relief in his wheelhouse when he gave up two runs to the Angels, extending the lead to 7-4.
By the time Daniel Stumpf was finished the seventh the score was 11-4. The Tigers relievers had given up six runs on five hits in the inning.

STREAKS & INFO:
James McCann, who has been rehabbing with the Toledo Mud Hens, was in Detroit today. During his last game in Toledo he was 4-for-4 with three RBIs on four singles. He played all nine innings, so he should be in good shape to get back to work for the Tigers this weekend.

Miguel Cabrera had an RBI single in the first inning and is batting .304 (42-for-138) with 10 doubles, five home runs and 28 RBIs over his last 38 games.
He started the season batting .107 (3-for-28).

Interesting note, Miguel Cabrera is currently only one home run shy of tying Carl Yastrzemski in the all-time home runs list. Yastrzemski was also the last player to win a Triple Crown before Cabrera did it in 2012. When Miguel reaches 452 home runs he will tie for 37th most of all-time.
Dan Dickerson said that Miggy has gone about 105 at bats since his last homerun.

Castellanos extended his hitting streak to a season-high seven games with a solo home run in the second inning. Castellanos finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. He’s batting .400 (10-for-25) over the hit streak.

Ian Kinsler finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. It was the fourth time this season he’s had at least three hits in a game. Kinsler is eight runs shy of 1,000 for his career.

Alex Avila tied his season-long hitting streak of five games with a double. He also had a walk and an RBI.

Victor Martinez doubled and scored a run in the third inning. He’s hit safely in 33 of his last 43 games in which he had an official at-bat.
Martinez is four doubles shy of 400 for his career.

Tigers had 11 lob and were 4 for 19 with risp, post game Ausmus said they got alot of clutch hits. #Buffoon

What is wrong with Miggy, why do I get the feeling his back is never 100% now he's had a very sub par year so far with the bat.

Well shit. When I bought my tickets and made the hotel reservation I expected to see a win and a loss. I just didn't expect Farmer and Fulmer to do a rendition of Freaky Friday.

I Had a little run in with a couple poster the other day about who the blain of how bad things are. Come 2022 when Cabrera making THIRTY TWO M's and this season, the high light of his last three. That feeling you got could become the mother of nightmare's for the Tigers. Like I posted in this thread these BIG contracts are not good for baseball. Cause down the line when it does not work out and cripples a team. It not only hurts completion, between teams, but hurts new FA"s to get there fair share of money.
2018 and 19 could be real problem years.

Jason Beck reports: Justin Verlander (groin) reported no problems after throwing a bullpen session on Thursday #Tigers

Owners have more money than you think.. There's no cap, basically. The Ilitch's have many holdings, things they invested in and the Tigers are basically cheap. So as far as hamstringing a team, it won't hamstring the Ilitch's. They could just release everyone who makes more than 10m and it's the equivalence of dropping a small pizza on a curb..

You think the teams who spend 100m or less (not even sure anyone is that low any more) do so because that's all they can afford? They whine like it is but these guys are freakin' billionaires.. 10 times over..
