Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann survived two tough innings at the outset before settling in to pitch a solid game. He recorded a season-high seven strikeouts and pitched his fourth consecutive Quality Start.

The Tigers tied the game in the eighth. Ian Kinsler walked, stole second, stole third and then raced home when a wild pitch bounced all the way over to the dugout.
Seconds later, J.D. Martinez homered to right to make it 4-4.
The homer was his 12th of the season and 29th of his career in the eighth inning or later, according to Baseball-Reference.com. Half of JD's homers this season have tied the game or given the Tigers the lead.

NOTABLE:
Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler hit his fourth lead-off home run of 2017 on Tuesday. It was the 44th of his career, tying Brady Anderson for fifth-most lead-off homers in baseball history.

The retractable roof very quickly and quietly closed during the sixth inning. There were gray skies throughout the day in Seattle, but no significant threat of rain until late in the evening.

After two more hits and a walk on Tuesday, Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz remains perfect in six career plate appearances against Zimmermann.

Tigers designated hitter John Hicks, who was in the Mariners system from 2011-2015, got his first career hit at Safeco Field on a sharp single in the second inning.
Hicks entered the game 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts here.

Hicks laid down a surprise bunt to lead off the fourth inning in an attempt to catch the Mariner's napping, but pitcher Ariel Miranda made an athletic play to throw him out.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 32-38, six games under the .500 mark for the first time this season. They have lost nine of their past 12 games.

The Tigers have lost their last five games at Safeco Field, their longest skid at the ballpark since they lost seven in a row from April 21, 2001, to April 25, 2003.

Boxscore.

ROARS:
Jordan Zimmermann: Pitched his fourth consecutive quality start, relying again on his newly re-found slider to punch out seven Mariners in his 6 2⁄3 innings of work.

JD Martinez: His eighth inning solo shot helped fuel a furious comeback bid.

HISSES:
Daniel Stumpf: He was called in to face the lefty Ben Gammel in relief of Zimmarmann and gave up a home run to him after a nine pitch battle. It was his only batter he faced.

Bunting: Mahtook tried to get down a bunt in the ninth after Hicks reached on a leadoff single, but popped out to the catcher in foul ground. Remember kids, if your manager tells you to bunt, quit.

STREAKS AND INFO:
14 years ago, Miguel Cabrera made his MLB debut, hitting a walkoff home run against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in extra innings.

JD?s solo shot in the eighth gave him 37 home runs in his career with Detroit hit in the seventh inning or later. He has hit 95 total since putting on the Olde English D.

Kirk Gibson is a treasure.
