Game 153 Tigers vs twins Thursday Sept 21 2017

Another fur ball, 9 more shit shows to go.

6 of 9 that remain against the twins. Tigers will prolly seal twins spot at the second wild card.

The Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 12-1 on Thursday night, the first of seven games between the two teams in the final week-and-a-half of the 2017 season.

The Tigers (62-91) are now only a half-game ahead of the AL-worst Chicago White Sox and are 4-17 in September.

The Tigers have given up 10 or more runs an MLB-high 23 times in 2017, including seven times in September.

In his first start since Sept. 2, After missing nearly three weeks and receiving a neck injection to alleviate pain, Zimmermann returned for an OK start. It was OK in the sense he showed some effectiveness early but was not able to build on that a second time through the order.

He began with three scoreless innings but wilted in the fourth, when his low-90s fastball found the middle of the strike zone. The big blow in the fourth was a two-out, two-run single by Byron Buxton.
Because he hadn?t pitched since Sept. 2, Zimmermann likely was on a pitch count. He threw 69 pitches. He allowed three runs, five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Zimmermann is owed $74 million through 2020.

Most of the Twins' damage was done against the Tigers' bullpen, including relievers Victor Alcantara and Myles Jaye.

NOTABLE
Twins starter Adalberto Mejia was one out shy of getting the five innings needed for a win. Manager Paul Molitor opted to turn to reliever Dillon Gee with two outs in the fifth and Miguel Cabrera coming up. Gee gave up a single to Cabrera before retiring Nicholas Castellanos on a 400-foot fly-out to center.

Castellanos was hitless on Thursday, snapping his career-long 17-game streak. It was the longest active streak in baseball and the longest by a Tigers player since Magglio Ordonez had an 18-game streak in 2011.
Castellanos hit .418 (28-for-67) during the 17-game span, with nine doubles, five home runs and 18 RBIs.

Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario had two hits and drove in the Tigers' first run with a double in the third.
He's reached base safely in 19 of 20 games since being acquired by the Tigers. He's hitting .362 (25-for-69) with seven doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs and 12 walks since his arrival.

After taking an early lead on a Jeimer Candelario RBI double, the Tigers? offense went silent. They recorded just two hits in the final seven innings.
Candelario?s double was impressive: One pitch earlier against rookie left-hander Francisco Mejia, he pulled an inside fastball just a foot foul. On the double, Mejia threw him an inside slider, which he kept fair.
