Tigers sign Liriano

Tigers are just throwing more mud against the wall to see what sticks. Maybe Bosio and Rick Anderson can help him.

Tigers sign LHP Francisco Liriano to one year contract, per report.
The lefty last pitched with the World Series-winning Houston Astros.

Tigers To Sign Francisco Liriano.

Why would we sign this guy to a ML deal? I could see a minor league deal and see in spring if he has any value. I'm just glad it wasn't a 2 yr Pelfry deal.

Well this is exciting. Maybe I'll have to reconsider and order the MLB package this year after all.

**HEAVY SARCASM**

Tigers aren't gonna be very competitive this season anyway, so acquiring Liriano for one season ain't gonna make or break it. There is a slight chance that he might pitch well enough to be flipped for prospects before the trade deadline. He is a lefty, which in MLB usually means having a longer shelf-life.

I figured his career was over. Oh wait, here comes the Tigers with a 4 million dollar deal. WTF

They just removed a "prospect" from the 40-man roster to make room for him. Then we hope he does well enough to flip him to a team who doesn't know who he is and go on his 1/2 season of work? For what? A caliber of prospect they released to make room for him? Hmmmm.

I will also point out they don't even know if he will be a starter. Big Al said he might be a reliever. $4 Mil for a reliever is steep to begin with. $4 Mil for a pitcher who hasn't pitched well the last 2 seasons is crazy.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Detroit Tigers have designated left-handed reliever Jairo Labourt for assignment to make room for newly signed veteran Francisco Liriano.

Labourt, 23, a hard-throwing prospect acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the David Price trade in 2015, was removed from the 40-man roster and must clear waivers to stay in the organization.

The move was a mild surprise because Labourt progressed quickly up the the organizational ladder in 2017 after starting the year at Class A (Advanced) Lakeland.

He finished the year in Detroit, where control problems emerged during his brief stint with the club.

Over three minor-league levels in 2017, Labourt was 1-1 with a 2.17 ERA, striking out 79 in 66 1/3 innings.

The Tigers now have seven days to work out a trade or send Labourt through waivers. If no team claims him, Labourt can be outrighted to the minor leagues.

All for Liriano? Makes no sense..

We lose Jairo Labourte for Liriano is one thing but to lose him after trading Price for him really makes no since. Then again look at what they got for J.D., JV, Kton, Kinsler. Really they have not gotten any future HOF yet. Alex for Jeimer Candelario thoe could be the trade that's work out, crazy as that may be.
