So I was just thinking about this the other day. I work in an office environment, a big office, and I had someone say something that was 1. untrue and 2. made me look bad to other coworkers behind my back. Needless to say I was pretty angry.

I thought about what I would like to do if there were no social conventions and my first response is, I would go up to them and tell them we had a score to settle and fight, right there in the office. This is obviously not acceptable in real life but in my ideal world it would be ok.

Any other situations where you think this should be ok for resolving disputes?

A tad different but I had a guy run me over at catcher in a softball league way back in the early 90's when we lived in Vegas. He crushed me but I held on to the ball because it was a great relay throw from our SS... So everyone is yelling at him because these are no contact leagues and i get up and threw the baseball at him and hit him in the leg..Good thing we had some big guys on the team like Jesse or I would have been toast but i was seeing red in my eyes, and I know you were so pissed you wanted to smash that guy in your office... I always hated people that talked behind other peoples back...No wonder I never moved up in Vegas... So much damn brown-nosen out in Vegas... Man it pissed me off..

And speaking of talking behind peoples back.. Another true Bob Vegas story. Early 90's again and the Bally's Sportbook management team was replace by Lenny Del Genio and his damn team.. I was a supervisor and all of a sudden he comes storming down from a meeting and i kid you not right out in public he starts screaming at me about that very subject.. People talking crap behind peoples backs... He is only talking to me and yelling at me and asking if I was the one spreading rumors. I told him to calm down and that also I did not have any idea what he was talking about.. This went on for a good 5 minutes on the counter in front on everyone and me the Supervisor is staying calm and telling Lenny the director we need to take this to the back. Italians can yell and swear with the best of them. Finally we get in the back and i went off on him... I gave it back as good as he gave it to me. I was not going to take that from anybody especially if it was not true. Well supervisors don't win battles with directors and i was suspended for 3 days and then we had a freaking meeting with the president at Bally's and all I had to do was say i was sorry for yelling at him but i still had no freaking idea what he was so mad about.. Well i kept my job and stayed at Bally's for 17 years from 87-2004 until we moved back to Michigan.. I had like 9 lives at Bally's The managers all came and went but I was never fired or let go... Suspended a few times....LOL

One time it was because a 26,000 dollar mistake.. Opps!!! LOL Casino ate it.... Not my fault directly..... But still good times out in Vegas!!

Good couple of stories there Bob. Worked at Bally's for all those years huh? I cannot imagine living in Vegas that entire time, I think I would be dead after like 5 years, ha.

Re: the backtalk - The person who told me about it didn't tell me who it was, I asked obviously but I was fuming and they could tell I would probably do something stupid. Good decision on their part because I would have. I had to take the next day off because of it, I pretty much try to stay out of that nonsense but it seems people want to drag me into it anyway.
