No I'd say it's more in line with late 80s alternative/shoegazine genre that them, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and to some extent REM was responsible for.. I guess it's relevant because it certainly influenced grunge acts like Nirvana and Mudhoney etc..

The Doolittle album sounds a lot like weezer to me. Strike that, Reverse it. Weezer sounds a lot like The Pixies..

You were thiiiiis close to being -53

Play the song I posted and tell me minus the lyrics and voice singing that it doesn't sound like weezer.

How about some Ween?

TinselWolverine[/color]]I'm feeling nostalgic too today.

To the OP, you may not know that the Sarah McLaughlin song, "Angel," that became a 9/11 Anthem, was actually written in 1997, as an ode to the Smashing Pumpkins keyboardist, Jonathon Melvoin, who had died of an overdose a year earlier.

Peace.

how come your youtube post doesn't show up graphically, just as a link? I think you might have done it wrong.

I was going to start a thread for this band, but this is the target audience, so I'll post it here.

If you're looking for a raw Nirvana-like sound (and aren't a music snob like MC that can't get passed a band having influences) check out Cloud Nothings. I just downloaded their album Attack on Memory after sleeping on it for too long, and it was fucking great. The main guy in the band is from Cleveland and is just barely 20. I haven't listened to their first album, which came out just the year before, but from the reviews it sounds like this one is much heavier. I'll be buying this album.

I'll try to put up a couple youtube clips when I get home.

In spite of that, you should give it a listen. I'll have to give it a second go this afternoon to see if I'm giving it the classic first listen over-hype, but as of now this is one of the best new bands I've heard in a long time.
