Both of These Can't Be True

This is probably the thread with the most dumb posts in the history of DSF politics board, beginning with the unimaginable dumbness of the OP:

"Both of these cannot be true - either the sky is blue, or grass is green - it cannot possibly be both."

As I've gotten older I've come to notice that the only thing most people REALLY care about is money/the economy. Abortion, civil rights, gun control...all of these just seem like secondary bitching points. Put a little extra money in everyone's pockets and they'll turn a blind eye to just about everything.

Agree. And Grandkids. Money and Grandkids.

I personally have nothing whatsoever to gain monetarily by supporting "socialist" policies. I have the same FEHB and pension as Congresscritters, plus railroad retirement, a modest inheritance, and no kids. So what you posted isn't always true. Most of us Leftists don't wear blinders made out of Benjamins.

Its just a shame CEO's, and owners do not take a lot less pay for their workers. Some do but most just want to look good..

how would that really help the workers? Let's pick on Walmart since everyone hates them. The CEO makes $35M per year. That sounds like a lot! So let's say he lowers his salary to something that you feel is reasonable. The average hourly worker makes $10 for part-time and $13 for full time. The CEO would be considered full time so let's give him $13 per hour. Pay him $27K per year and give the rest to the employees. Wal Mart has 2.3M employees. Each employee would get $15.20. I guess they could take their wife to McDonald's for lunch?

Of course, a lot of big corps are giving employees a nice bonus this year, apparently due to the corporate tax break they received. I heard Disney gave everybody $1000 along with countless other companies that did the same.

sounds like you are already set with some "socialist" benefits...so it won't hurt you to tax the shit out of me to help support people that don't want to take care of themselves or their families.

Ohh whoopie....a one-time tax deductible $1K bonus, when their tax-cuts are permanent

they are permanent? So the tax bill can never be changed / or a new one put in place by a different administration. That's news to me!

And yes...bonuses are taxed. One of the companies paid $200M in bonuses. That's another $24.8M put into the social security fund ($12.4M paid by the company). That should make you happy ;)

So poor conservatives living in flyover country are turning down govmint assistance, and are not "robbing" you? Maybe being taxed for corporate welfare, such as being paid for not growing crops, or for state of the art entertainment venues, or the MIC doesn't matter to you....b/c allegedly more jobs in the puny hundreds.

I suggest that you contact your reps and ask them if they are benefiting from socialism.

Uhh....administrations cannot legislate for tax bill reversals, that is Congress responsibility. Didn't post that those bonuses weren't taxed, but deductible, read my posts more closely next time.

The small "temporary" tax-cuts for labor are far more likely to be rolled back by 2021, if the GOP maintains control or increases their majority in all 3 branches of government over the next two election cycles, which is exactly why they added that self-destructing tax-cut cookie in the first place. That should make you very happy!!

Don't think it's going to happen but if Trump goes down, you're correct, it'll be a bloodbath in the markets. It'll be Paul Krugman's market call in reverse. Can't believe that guy still has a job/readers.

As a FINRA-licensed S24/7/63 and practicing investment advisor, I can say with certainty that the stock market is not correlated to donald trump, as much as he would assert otherwise. The VIX is at an unprecedented number below 10 and despite real and genuine political discourse. Sure, the stock market would respond to instability in the white house - who wouldn't? - but this booming market and economy is based on the past decade of recovery and leadership under Obama. Trump has most certainly dabbled in money laundering with Russian mobsters. The 'Pee tapes' are most certainly real and he's in deep, fucking shit. He never wanted to be President and would not be, were it not for the interference from Russian hackers and social media BotFarms. He's been a brazen racist and despicable person in private life and now, in serving the public, he's been exposed.

The only person I feel sort of sorry for is Melania ...though she's just a gold digger and deserving of the public embarrassment that is her husband and our "president."

and no ...I'm not some stupid "libtard" or otherwise politically wedged to the Left ...I am in the 1% to be honest and am very much fiscally conservative.

I simply object to the person who sits in DC - the "man" Trump who is in every way an abhorrent and disgusting person. Saddest of all is the sycophant GOP who remain silent through all of this.

too bad the "libtards" don't have 2nd Amendment nuts.

when did I say poor liberals are "robbing" me? I don't care if they are liberal or conservative.

As far as farmers getting subsidies for not farming...I am against that. I'm not sure what you are talking about when you bring up "state of the art entertainment venues"

The stock market went up under Obama - it really didn't have anywhere else to go.

Obama and his people claimed credit for that.

Kind of how it always goes.

Don't?

That is pretty typical of many conservatives who post blanket fallacies about people who must seek assistance from the government, due to circumstances beyond their control and wishes. Such as kids and ex-spouses, whose mother or father are jailed for missing child-support payments, then as a result, cannot find employment paying a wage high enough to catch up and resume making payments, putting them back in the slammer for longer and longer periods, until they receive or commit a felony.

Or people who are laid off and cannot quickly find another FT job paying above min wage, and recieve assistance for a year or longer, after having paid taxes for years, if not decades.

Just what percent of these tax-suckiing "slackers" do you think wouldn't jump @ the chance of landing a FT job with advancement opportunities, and a life-supporting wage or salary?

b/c FT "right to work" min wage doesn't and hasn't since the 50s.

We kinda do to wit: "Redneck Revolt was founded in 2016, as an anti-racist, anti-fascist community defense formation. ...

In 1921, the term [redneck] became synonymous with armed insurrection against the state, as members of the United Mine Workers of America tied red bandanas around their necks during the Battle of Blair Mountain, a two week long armed multi-racial labor uprising in the coalfields of West Virginia.
"

also see any organization calling themselves "The John Brown Gun Club."

these organizations are actually dedicated to social issues, unlike the NRA which is a sales/promitional organization for gun manufacturers and the III %ers, "Oath keepers" and open carry people who are alternatively white supremacists, or just plain nuts.

I don't know what the percentage is...but my guess is it's a large percentage.

Here are some suggestions:

if you can't make child support payments get a second job, or a third
get a skill or trade that's in demand
don't have kids that you can't support
don't commit felonies
if you have kids, ensure/demand they get a good education

there are opportunities out there for everyone. People are too lazy to take advantage of them. Most people are in a bad situation because they themselves have put them there or because their parents were irresponsible. I'm all for taking care of people that can't do it themselves due to disability etc. The rest of them can fuck off.

Its too bad that we can't designate where and how our income taxes were spent over the past half-century. I know, for example, where and how mine would have been allocated, and especially the percent spent on the MIC and defense would have been much much smaller, and the percent on education, arts and sciences, and infrastructure much higher.

yea...and get to pick your tax rate too. I would go with the 10% bracket

If you are in a higher than 10% tax bracket and you want to get into the 10% tax bracket you can do that tomorrow.

Just quit what you're getting paid to do now, and start doing something that pays less instead.

I could even go to 0%. My wife & I could earn 24K, not pay a dime in taxes and get a $2K "refund" because we have a child.

:yay:
