First let me say up front that this probably is not all that good, but there a few things that make this legislation pretty useless.
1) Google and Facebook the current largest online advertisers weren't really included in the original legislation.
2) There are a number of protections already in place. This repeal is just for the legislation that was signed last year.
Do you think the legislation being gutted was really doing something to protect your privacy?
. . . and do you really think the regulations or lack there of, will really change anything in your personal privacy protection?
I get it, Republicans do it, ergo it must = bad. Trump might be for it too, so it must be the most useless fucking legislation that has ever been passed.
Not embarrassed at all. Need to continue to look at ways to reduce my digital footprint as everyone should.

Here's an article that explains why Republicans should be embarrassed: there was literally no popular support, or public interest basis for this bill: they passed it SOLELY to benefit the bottom line of the big ISPs like comcast and AT&T, who can now sell this data. This is governing at its worst.
as some have noted, sure portions of your browsing history could already be (and are) packaged and sold by other companies with a hand in web traffic, such as google and facebook, but only to the extent you were logged into your accounts with them while surfing. With regard to tracking by your ISP, there is no such limitation: everything you do that goes through their server, ie all your home web traffic, netflix viewing, etc. they have access to.
Also, I work on a lot of data privacy & digital marketing issues, and I can tell you this: consumer privacy was already weak as it was. Now By passing this legislation NOW, the Trump administration and GOP-controlled Congress are sending a signal that they are prepared to look the other way on privacy issues, and side with business against consumers when push comes to shove.

I'm going to be embarrassed knowing that the data miners at my ISP are going to now know all the racist, homophobic and xenophobic websites I visit on a regular basis.
Plus the assorted varieties of pornography.
Naw, it is only embarrassing if it means anything other than you get to post meaningless crap like you know something about how much privacy you actually have on the internet.
So let me get this straight - what your saying is, that you actually noticed an increase in your privacy level from before the original legislation last year until today?

nope. just saying this legislation sends a message that the current administration and congress don't give a shit about consumers' privacy*, and I expect that to translate into further abuse and companies pushing the envelope on collection and use of consumer data.
*they will of course whine and complain loudly about their privacy if/when anything is collected and leaked about their own activities online.

Surveil my enemies, but don't surveil me because I don't like it. Pretty standard for most people.

Well aware that privacy is for the most part, non-existent on the internet. What I WAS comfortable knowing was that ISPs couldn't purchase our information and actually use that as an excuse for competition to make the top dollar. And the previous legislation provided SOME defense with our security.
Now, it's all about that money. There's ZERO logical reason for this bill to pass other than that.

If you read about this and think the ones in THE BIG BAD GOVERNMENT are the money sucking weasels, and not Comcast, AT&T et al who pushed this bill, you're part of the problem.
Well if I'm part of the problem that has you upset, my job is done for the day. Go AT&T, and Comcast.
As long as my services keep getting better, the hell with your privacy. :*)

Maybe someone needs to tell Pence that the federal money doesn't fund the abortion part of what PP does? Or that they provide services to millions of women for overall care? This is the same guy that can't be in the same room as a woman who's making rights for the millions of American women.
Honestly, I would be scared to be a female in today's society. And this government continues to embarrass this country. His time out of office can't come soon enough.
