There has been little information available today about Tigers slugger J.D. Martinez, who at last check underwent an MRI for a foot sprain.
Now MLB.com?s Jason Beck tweets that Martinez will undergo a stress CT scan in Charlotte on Friday.
Martinez rolled his ankle, while making a catch against the Marlins on Saturday. He underwent initial tests later in the weekend, but the Tigers have not yet released them.
X-rays have indicated he didn?t break any bones, but ligament damage is a possibility. Obviously, a significant injury would be a big blow to the Tigers? offense.
Martinez batted .307/.373/.535 with 22 homers in 517 plate appearances last season.

J.D. Martinez will undergo a stress CT scan on Friday by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte. Still no definitive timetable on his return.

Tigers’ J.D. Martinez out 3-4 weeks with Lisfranc sprain.
Martinez will likely begin the season on the disabled list as he recovers.

J.D. Martinez is expected to miss three to four weeks with a sprain of the Lisfranc ligament in his right foot.
It's not a Lisfranc ligament rupture, meaning surgery will not be required. The injury just needs time to heal.
Martinez will be in a cast for seven to 10 days. After the cast is off, the foot can be re-tested, at which point the Tigers will have a better idea how long Martinez will be out.

As long as it heals up and nothing bad happens during the healing period, it sounds like JD might be back the beginning of May?

With Collins and Moya being out of options this gives the team a few more weeks to maybe move one of them.

Who are our OF now, including JD that makes team?

Team (not necessarily who I want, but who I see making it)

C= McCann
C = Avila
1B = M. Cabrera
2B = Kinsler
SS = Iglesias
3B = Castellanos
LF = Upton
CF = Mahtook
RF = Collins
DH = V. Martinez
UTIL = Romine
UTIL = Machado
Reserve OF = Moya

Moya is gone when J.D. comes back. Of the three out of options (Machado, Collins and Moya), Moya has the lesser of the chance in being claimed by another team. He has not value except for HRs. None. Machado is as good as Iglesias defensively, maybe even better. Collins can hit given then chance. His strike against him is the bird flip.

Was Mahtook a lock before he came? He certainly didn't win a spot from his ST playing.. What about Jacoby Jones.. I assume because he has options he never really had a chance to make the team?

Granted it's spring training but, the way Jones is hitting and playing, along with JD out, which opens up a spot for another who might have been sent down, why not go with the kid, if only for a short while.

They say they are contenders and are supposed to go with the best 25.
Even Leyland said as much some 11 years ago when he brought Zumaya up with them.

Why trade for him if you aren't going to have him make the team?

I haven't paid too much attention to much of the off season and until yesterday when I saw the game on TV I didn't even know he was a Tiger. So I was curious..

I agree with most except Mahtook. I just do not see where he done better than Infante. Omar, veteran benefits the bench more. Of course I do not know the options both have at this point. I think they can keep Omar any way thy go.

One's a CF, and one's not. I don't believe Omar has ever played CF.

The real answer for me. I have know IDEA. We had Gose and Jones and Collins and Moya. Last two out of options. U got me. I mean Alex Presley done enough to get the CF spot. Of course no one saw that coming. Yea that trade is looking worthless right now. But then again the J.D. injury was not seen. I guess you can not have enough depth any where.
It was a head scratcher then and it's one now. Just did not see the need.

Infante, Gose and Presley aren't even on the 40-man roster. Only Gose is young enough to warrant giving a roster spot to and he was released when they traded for Mahtook.

After Collins, any one of Presley, Gose, J. Jones, Mahtook, etc, etc will not ever be MLB regulars (except on the Tigers). And even Collins is borderline. Next season, Stewart should be close to being ready.

I wouldn't be shocked if they end up making a trade with a guy or 2 here. Although I'm sure most of them would clear waivers anyway.
