PFF Draft Needs and Prospect Fits for the Lions

I really like how they gave early and mid/late options for the multiple positions to be filled. I much prefer this over mocks.

Lawson is very viable cb. Pff has Gunther working for them now

The Lions do not have a viable No. 2 CB opposite Darius Slay, as Nevin Lawson has given up eight touchdowns to just seven pass breakups (no interceptions) over the past two seasons, and had a QB rating against of 113.5 in 2016. Slot-specialist Quandre Diggs also had a rough 2016, as opposing QBs completed 91.3 percent of passes into his area while maintaining a lofty passer rating of 124.4. This year?s CB class is of course loaded, and the Lions would do well to come out of the draft with multiple players at the position.

I think Lawson is a decent #2. You have to take into account scheme and that any corners "statistics" are going to suffer when they have such a terrible pass rush. How many 5 - 7 second drop backs did we allow last year? I don't know if that is a statistic......but I bet we led the league. I goes without saying that a better pass rush would lead to better coverage.

We certainly could use more depth though.....and if we did grab a CB in the first 2 rounds that pushed Lawson to #3......id be fine with that too!

Lawson has played well. Low YPC allowed and low completion %. He covers well. Anyone who thinks he isn't a viable number 2 is completely clueless on CB play and the Lions. Lawson is a terrible number 1 if Slay gets hurt. But he's a solid number 2 CB. So if they draft one, it will be because they think he could be a number 2 eventually or even a number 1 if Slay got hurt. Also, Lawson is on the last year of his deal in 2017. CB still in play due to that and number 1 depth.

i think Lawson would be a decent slot/nickel cb. He should be charged for rape after every game when he plays on the outside. He just doesnt have the top end speed to keep up with #1 and #2 Wrs in the league. That position needs to be upgraded.....especially if our pass rush doesnt improve. Considering weve added 0 pass rushers this off season....ya, our pass rush didnt improve. Spoiler Alert!

Lawson was ranked 37th out of 111 corners per pff

Pff should look at their own grades before they call him not viable

Not only viable, he is good per pff

Pff hired Gunther. Nuff said.

The previous quote is taking things out of context. Lawson being 37th (I don't have PFF, so I can't actually verify that) doesn't imply he is good at all. It could be there are only 30 good CBs in the NFL, and everyone else grades poorly. Just because he's top 1/3rd overall doesn't imply that he is actually good.

It's like saying that the 10th best TE is "good" simply because every team has a TE. There are only a handful of actual difference makers at TE, and the rest are fungible.

Guys i like this draft:

Rd 1
Derrick Barnett DE
Hassan Reddick LB
The top 5 corner that drops: Conley, White, Jackson

Rd 2

Jarrad Davis LB
Malik McDowell DT
Chris Godwin WR

Rd 3
Tarell Basham DE
Marcus Maye S
Jaleel Johnson DT
Demarcus Walker DE
*If you like Jake Butt or Sidney Jones you probably have to take them here*

Rd 4
