I think we're close enough to the draft for this annual thread. Who is the ONE (or 2) players that you DON'T want the Lions to take at 21 and why?

For me, its either of the hometown players......Jabrill Peppers or Malik McDowell.

Peppers instantly solves the return specialist issues.....but I don't see him being a very successful every down defender at the NFL level. Sub package S or goal line CB's aren't exactly what you hope to get out of a 1st round pick.

McDowell is WAY to big a risk to invest a 1st round pick on. The sheer talent is there for McDowell to be a Pro Bowl level defender but I have a hard time believing that giving an unmotivated kid MILLIONS of dollars is going to lite the needed fire. He was named by numerous GM's as the worst interview they had at the combine. If he isn't even mature enough to answer questions about his biggest weakness how is he going to feel when he has coaches and players yelling at him to move his ass???

Honestly, I wouldn't take McDowell in the 2nd either. The earliest I would take a chance on him is the 3rd.....because it would cost so little cut him.

Mixon. Running the ball has more to do with the O-line than the RB outside of the real greats, so I'd prefer not to draft a RB at all. That said, following strangers into a restaurant to continue a verbal fight before punching a lady in the face is disturbing. That's not a crime of passion, that's a willful decision to provoke. I don't really care if he is a great runner, I don't want to watch him play.

Any tight end or WR. I'd be okay with basically every other position.

John Ross. The 40 yard dash time is what everyone keeps drooling about, but I wouldn't want him. Really undersized, and physical corners give him problems. Plus I'm not sure Stafford can get him the ball deep consistently enough.

I don't know which are better playmakers, all I want them to do is draft playmakers with the speed and athleticism that Quinn is looking for that falls below the seconds he looks for in the cone drills and all that.
I hope the first 2 rounds are those players that fall within Quinn's requirements at DE, LB, or CB/Safety.

Any offense in RD 1.

Dalvin Cook id hate a little bit less than the rest but were just missing a huge opportunity at that point to get an important piece on the defense.

Ive seen TE Njoku mocked to us often....no thanks.

While i agree we do need a WR i dont think the first round is the place for it.

Oline was sured up thru FA....while Ramcyzk is projrected to go around our pick and value is there....i just dont see the need anymore.

Ross, to me, is EXACTLY what the offense needs. Guys his size typically do have those problems with big physical CB's, but like DeSean Jackson in his prime, he could be an outside receiver even at that size. The one good thing about Ross is the scouting reports across the board say what a good route runner he is with great hands. He's lightning quick and can create space before big guys can even touch him....and then it's all over. He might be the fastest player to ever play in the NFL not named Dion Sanders. As far as Stafford not being able to get him the ball? I could not disagree more. #9 may have one of the strongest arms to ever play.

Now.....we have so many defensive needs that taking a WR in the 1st would be borderline Millenesque......but I wouldn't complain one bit if we took Ross!

I'd say the offense needs a pulse of a run game more than a deep threat, although they do need both to improve. Also I didn't say Stafford had a weak arm, I've just seen him miss deep throws quite a bit over the years. When CJ was in his prime he was able to beat guys on "jump balls" that Ross will not be able to do. Ross also has injury concerns with his knees. I would stay away, but that's just me.

Agreed they should not take a WR in that spot anyway so it's really of no concern hopefully!

I actually think the run game will be important next year because i see our pass game taking a step back unless we add a weapon. You can only go so many years of the same ol 7 yard slant or riddick out of the back field. Jones or tate need to step up and be a threat. We need to start completing passes down field. That being said id be fine going defense in the first 4 rounds lol....we just have that many holes on that side of the ball.

Might be a long shot but no OL. We don't need to draft another OL.

Eric Ebron.

I agree with the post above with Mixon. I want nothing to do with a woman beater.

Whoa.....what Mixon did was uncalled for. But calling him a woman beater is quite a reach. That girl grabbed his throat 1st......let's not forget that. What he did was uncalled for.....but to lump him in the same group as men who deliberately hit women on a regular basis is asinine.

How is punching a woman a stretch from being a woman beater? I want nothing to do with a guy that strikes a woman unless she is some how his life is at risk. He could have easily avoided that situation.

I cheated on a girl once when I was 20. Not proud of it. It doesn't make me a womanizer or habitual cheater.

He could have avoided it. I agree 100%. But he's young and stupid. A one time occurance hardly makes him a woman beater.

Well Ray Rice has only been accused once and he can't even sniff a team. Why should he be any different? Quinn said he has zero tolerance for that but we know that is a crap since he has already signed players with abusive pasts.

Ray Rice was done playing football. His career was on the major downslide. Don't pretend that him beating up his wife is why he's no longer on a team lol. That's comical, because if he was still putting up numbers, he would have been scooped up in a second.
And if you have been following this Mixon story like I have, it gets really interesting. It went from him being undrafted. Then it went 4th or 5th round. Then it went from late 1st to 2nd round after his Pro Day. The kid made a dumb mistake, but he's 1st round talent for fun. Ya, some teams will stay away (maybe) but he's not going to be sitting around long. If he's there in the 2nd when we pick, I hope we nab him.
And Quinn already said that he never should have made the no tolerance thing. You can't ignore talent in the NFL because of character issues. This isn't a motherfucking church mission or some shit. Some of these dudes were brought up rough. I'm not trying to make excuses for these guys actions but it's fact. You look at our RB situation and Mixon makes them an instant threat in that dept. Go. Get. Him.

Ray Rice can't sniff a team because he's not good anymore. Has nothing to do with his past history.

If he could play, he would have been signed a long time ago.

Women want equal rights.... until they put their hands on a man's throat. Someone start men's throats matter.

As much as I would HATE drafting ANOTHER TE in the first, YOU CANNOT PASS on OJ HOWARD if he is there which is highly unlikely... Disappointed if we draft anything other than defense.... Unless Howard is there call me STUPID call me CRAZY, the kid seems to be the real deal.

Any offense in the first 3 rounds. DE, DT, LB, CB are all needs before any offense should be drafted.
