Veerlander vs Kluber runners up to last season Cy Young matchup today. Should be a good one.

You got me unless Verlander asked for McCann. Why not start Avila against the Right hander? Well they are 7-3 in 1st place.

Had a bad feeling about this one today heading in. Kluber seems to always do well against us, and JV has had awful games vs the Tribe in his career.

Still early though

Verlander gave up eight earned runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 during a start in Cleveland on June 26 of last year. It was the third time he had given up at least seven earned runs in 2016, and his ERA ballooned to 4.30.

Then July arrived.

Verlander finished the season 9-3 with a 1.98 ERA, striking out 147 in 123 innings of work. He pitched two more times against the Indians, allowing no runs on five hits in 14 2/3 innings while striking out 19.

* Indians first baseman Carlos Santana only has 13 hits in 66 at-bats against Verlander but seven of those are home runs. Only four are singles. Santana is tied with Jim Thome for most homers hit off Verlander.

New Indian Edwin Encarnacion is only 3-for-23 against Verlander, but two of those hits are homers.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor is 7-for-17 (.412).

* The Indians won all four games Kluber pitched against the Tigers in 2016, including a complete game shutout on May 4 in Cleveland.

In 71 career appearances at Progressive Field, Kluber is 31-22 with a 2.99 ERA.

* Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez have both hit well against Kluber.

Cabrera is 21-for-47 (.447) with five home runs and two doubles. Martinez has gone 12-for-36 (.333) with three homers. Cabrera has more home runs against Kluber than any other active player. Martinez is tied for second.

Ian Kinsler has not fared as well, going 6-for-33 (.182) with nine strikeouts.

Don't know what it is about Cleveland but they really just hit JV well. Maybe they're sign stealing lol.

Looks like Brad was right about needing a long reliever in this series. Nice choke job JV!

Silver lining??

Maybe Anibal will get in today and finally prove he should be released!
