Game 102 Tigers vs. astros July 29, 2017

Such an incompetent dick head , its like he is doing everything possible to get fired ...but doesn't.

Altuve was 0-3 off Boyd to, his logic makes no sense what so ever..I know this is what he'll say...we'll I let Boyd start the 8th cuz there was a lefty due up first but then the two guys after that we're righties

Ahh yea they were a combined 0-6 off Boyd dummy..

I am really starting to think he wants to be fired and is trying to lose

The Detroit Tigers scored three runs in the seventh inning to mount a come-back victory and snap a four-game losing streak, beating the Houston Astros 5-3 on Saturday night at Comerica Park.

It's the just the second time all season that the Tigers have won when trailing after six innings.

Jose Iglesias had RBI doubles in back-to-back at-bats.

Tigers starter Matthew Boyd pitched 7 1/3 strong innings, his third consecutive quality start since being recalled to take Daniel Norris' spot in the rotation.

Shane Greene (and not the embattled Bruce Rondon) finished the eighth inning, while Tigers closer Justin Wilson, who has been the subject of trade speculation, earned the save.

The Tigers placed outfielder Alex Presley on the 10-day disabled list before the game and recalled Jim Adduci, who started in right field Saturday night.
Presley said he had been battling discomfort in his lower oblique that was showing no signs of improvement. He and the medical staff ultimately decided that rest would be the only cure.
Adduci went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He also appeared to get a late jump or take a bad angle (or perhaps both) on a liner by Derek Fisher that went to the wall for an RBI triple in the fourth.

Tigers third baseman Nicholas Castellanos took a 96 mph fastball off his left hand. He stayed in the game and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Astros reliever Francis Martes.

Astros starter Collin McHugh pitched well in only his second outing after a three-month stint on the disabled list.
He allowed a run on four hits in six innings, walking one and striking out seven. He left at only 82 pitches

Shackled for six innings by the breaking-ball wizardry of right-hander Collin McHugh, the Tigers scored three times in the seventh inning against the Houston Astros bullpen, pulling out a 5-3 win and stopping their four-game losing skid.

Matthew Boyd was hit on his left shin by a sharp come-backer in the sixth inning. Evan Gattis beat out an infield single on the play when the ball caromed to third base.
After taking a few warm-up pitches and getting checked out by athletic trainer Kevin Rand, Boyd remained in the game.
Boyd did not disappoint. After dancing around a 16-pitch second that saw back-to-back singles and a 1-3-6-3-4 putout of Jake Marisnick, he made short work of the Astros, needing just five, 14, six, eight, and 10 pitches in innings 3-7. He walked no one for the first time in a start since May 21, and looked dominant all evening.
He picked off Jake Marisnick at first base in the second inning. The Astros had runners at the corners and one out at the time. Kinsler made the tag ending the rundown after he deftly faked that he was going to throw home. Marisnick bought the fake and ran into the tag.

From there, though, Boyd allowed just three hits ? including an RBI triple by Derek Fisher ? through 7 1/3 innings.

Tigers catcher Alex Avila is 3-for-31 (.097) with 13 strikeouts since the All-Star break.

Astros shortstop Marwin Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 11 games, while Jose Altuve's ended his at 19.

ROARS
Matt Boyd: Despite a 21-pitch, two-run homer first inning, Boyd recovered and stayed sharp. He had Astros batters off balance all evening and swinging awkwardly for pitches outside the zone for strikeouts.

Jose Iglesias: When no one else was producing hits, Iglesias came through with two hits, and two runs.

Victor Martinez: Had a three-hit day, driving in a run in the eighth.

The seventh inning: The offense woke up. Enough said.

HISSES
Taking the day off, because it feels like it?s been a while.

STATS AND STUFF
Saturday was Boyd's best outing since he went 7 2⁄3 innings on May 3 against the Indians, and gave up three runs on five hits, walking three.
While he allowed eight hits on Saturday, Boyd walked no one and struck out five batters in 71⁄3 innings.

Victor Martinez?s three-hit game was just his fifth of the season, and his first since July 17 when the Tigers won 10-2 against the Royals.

Matt Boyd was hit by a comebacker in the left leg in the sixth inning. After a visit from head athletic trainer Kevin Rand and throwing a few pitches, he stayed in the game.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers win over the astros.

Boyd?s final line: 7 1/3 innings, eight hits, three runs, no walks and five strikeouts. He was relieved by righty Shane Greene after recording the first out of the seventh inning. Greene retired both batters he faced and Justin Wilson picked up his 13th save of the season.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 46-56 on the season. They stand 8 1/2 games back of the second American League wild card spot.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the eighth off right-hander Luke Gregerson. Martinez, who had three hits in the game, dropped a two-out single through the Astros? over-shifted defense to score Justin Upton, who had walked and stolen second.

Closer Justin Wilson closed it out, inducing Marwin Gonzalez to hit into a 4-6-3 double play, for his 13th save.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Gattis goes deep: Boyd had recovered from Josh Reddick's leadoff infield single to retire Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel quickly, but he didn't have much feel for his curveball or slider as Gattis stepped into the batter's box.
After falling behind with changeups, Boyd went after Gattis with fastballs. Gattis hit the third of them 412 feet to left field, a no-doubt homer with a 110-mph exit velocity, according to Statcast.

Kinsler's clutch catch: One night after Tigers manager Brad Ausmus went to Bruce Rondon with an eighth-inning lead after his starter tossed seven quality innings with just 80 pitches, only to watch the Astros rally, Boyd stayed in to begin the eighth and face Reddick, whose three-run homer had pulled Houston in front on Friday.
This time, Kinsler ran down a Reddick foul ball all the way to the right-field seats, leaning into the stands to make the grab and prevent a rally.

So with the Tigers victory today their playoff possibilities jump a magnitude of a whopping 50%, from one chance out of 50 to about one chance in 33.

So you are saying there is a chance?
