Fulmer has been contending with finger numbness for years, but the severity of the tingling has recently increased, affecting his change-up during a start on Monday.
After an MRI showed inflammation and fluid in his right ulnar nerve, the Tigers opted to place him on the DL.
He will be shut down from any throwing for at least a week and take anti-inflammatory drugs.
The seriousness of Fulmer?s injuries remains to be seen, but when asked about the surgery being a concern, manager Brad Ausmus said, ?It could be if you couldn't get the symptoms to subside, but that?s not on the table right now.?
It marks the second time this season in which Fulmer has underwent an MRI: A mid-June test revealed shoulder bursitis.
