I was thinking: Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right..

Justin Verlander?s second half surge slowed, the Detroit Tigers offense was once again tamed and the team dropped its third game in a row on Tuesday night at Globe Life Park.

Joey Gallo and Mike Napoli hit back-to-back homers and the Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 10-4 on Tuesday night to end Justin Verlander's three-game winning streak.

The Rangers had just gone ahead 2-1 on Nomar Mazara's RBI single in the fourth inning when Gallo hit his 34th homer. Mr. Wop followed with a shot to left for his 24th homer, and added a two-run single in the Rangers' four-run eighth.
Robinson Chirinos also went deep off Verlander (8-8), who struck out eight without any walks while allowing five runs in six innings.
Tigers starters have given up 19 homers and have a 7.94 ERA over the last 11 games.
It?s the team?s ninth loss in the past 11 games. They are 13 games below the .500 mark at 53-66.
?We just have to play better, simple as that,? he said. ?We have to pitch better, hit better, manage better and coach better. Because this ain?t going to cut it for the next month and a half. I will tell you that.?
Fire the pitching coach along with Assmus.

Entering the game, Verlander had posted a 1.71 ERA in his past five starts. He had allowed five homers in six July starts but has now allowed five in three August starts.
It wasn?t all terrible for the Tigers? ace: Outside of the long balls, he struck out eight batters and walked none. Over six innings, he allowed eight hits.
It marked his first start since July 2 in which he allowed more than three earned runs.
Over this last spin through the rotation ? six starts including Drew VerHagen?s last fill-in outing ? Tigers starters have allowed 32 runs and 11 home runs in 29⅔ innings.

A.J. Griffin (6-3) allowed one run and struck out four in five innings. The right-hander had gone 1-3 with a 10.88 ERA in his first five career starts against the Tigers.

ROARS:
John Hicks: three hits on the night.

Victor Martinez: Hit a fence scraper in the ninth to give a bit of excitement into the dregs of the game.

HISSES:
Justin Verlander: Three home runs will hurt you every time.

Tigers defense: Not only did a bounced throw to second that went into center allow Odor to get on 3rd, but then the Tigers flat out forgot he was even there and he stole home easily.

The bullpen: Because...bullpen.

STREAKS AND INFO:
Hicks recorded his third career three hit game, all coming in this year.
He last had three hits on August 6th, in Baltimore.

This was the third time this year Verlander has allowed three home runs.
The last time was May 25th in Houston.

The Tigers really don?t like playing in Texas. Must be the heat.
