With the Derby 9 days away, starting a thread for the pre-Derby info leading up to it on May 3rd.

Where we are with the 2014 Derby.
Just qualifying for the Kentucky Derby can be a difficult feat.

Horse Racing: 2014 Kentucky Derby field begins to take shape.

Quoting myself again. California Chrome won. That's my pick. I always pick the winner of the Santa Anita Derby.

I seem to remember a friend of mine who forgets more than I know about the horses that the west coast horses don't do as well at the Derby. but....anything is possible with a 20 horse field.
Will you play California Chrome across the board W/P/S ?

Leaving in a short while for Foxwoods for Derby Day.
Making my usual $2 dollar "nitwit bets" on longshots, some rolling doubles, horses I like across the board, and some tri-boxes.

TinselWolverine good luck with California Chrome,

elrod do you have any favorites for the race?

I've got six exactas boxed. Was going to take one with Hoppertunity since hops reminds me of beer, but he got scratched along with Pablo. No real strong feelings, and I don't know horses well. Got a long shot exacta that includes Commanding Curve in honor of Verlander. Was originally going to pair Curve with Hoppertunity. I mean that's the perfect combo for this guy...beer and baseball. My "strongest" is probably the Chrome/Danza combo.

How about you KC? Who do you like? Also...enjoy the day!

I don't closely follow horse racing but am predicting California Chrome will break the Triple Crown drought. California Chrome wins all three Triple crown races. You heard it here first.

I hope you're right.

I always root for the winner of the Santa Anita Derby.

The horse who got pulled from the Belmont (I forget his name) in order not to risk his life due to an injury after winning the first two legs within the last few years or so had won the Santa Anita Derby.

I'll Have Another, that was the horse's name.

That horse was awesome.

And yet another Santa Anita Derby winner wins the Kentucky Derby.

Weep no more, my lady;

weep no more today...

Many years ago I had picked Real Quiet before the Derby. It was heartbreaking when he barely lost the Belmont.

Just have a gut feeling about California Chrome this year.

Long day, my semi annual trip to Foxwoods, the other being the Breeders Cup in 6 months.
Lost on the day. A bit more chalk than what we had anticipated.

We were always so busy on derby day and breeders Cup weekends in the race and sportsbook.... Those days are long gone for Bob....
