LB Zach Orr to visit Lions

Wherever the kid lands, I hope he's healthy enough. Sucks when doctors give you the doom and gloom perspective, only later to find out it wasn't that scary, and it sounds like that is what he's living through.

Orr was second team all pro last year but only got one vote. I guess if you get a vote they just put you on second team. Led Ravens in tackles. Could fit weak side. Worth a short. Low risk, high reward. Plus Whitehead dealing with a knee of course. Why can't our Will LB stay healthy

oh boy! On the surface it sounds like he may have gone to doctors until he heard what he wanted to hear. I hope for his sake he just stays retired.

Who needs a neck!! The guy has a chance to play for the Lions revamped top 10 defense and make the playoffs.

What he is saying is that the first doctor told him he was done, he was at a high increased risk of death or paralysis.

He was encouraged by friends and family to seek additional opinions, and when he did, every other doctor told him that he does in fact have the condition, but it doesn't mean he is at any increased risk at all. His odds of being injured or killed are the same as any other player.

Now, I don't want to pretend to be a doctor here, but what he's being told kind of makes sense. He was born with a condition that did not allow the disk in his C1-C2 to fully form. So he has a very reduced cushion between two critical vertebrae.

In all reality, if any of us takes a bone crushing hit in that spot, we're paralyzed or dead. There is no amount of "disk" between them to absorb the blow of a few thousand pounds of force.

To say he is at higher risk because his was under-formed stands contrary to reason. Again, I am no doctor, but I have serious back issues, and I know for fact those disks don't do a whole lote to absorb impact. They provide comfort from not having your bones grind together all day, but that are not there to absorb great impact, thickness be damned.

Ravens LB Zach Orr is reportedly retiring. He had the 7th-best run stop percentage among LBs in 2016 and anchored a strong Ravens' run D.
As reported earlier, the Lions are hosting former Ravens linebacker Zach Orr for a visit on Thursday. Although he received second-team All Pro honors in 2016, Pro Football Focus wasn?t a big fan, grading him 81st out of 87 qualifying linebackers:

Zach Orr should play again relatively worry free.

It is worth mentioning Chao?s checkered background when taking into account his opinions. Chao has made a name for himself as the ?ProFootballDoc? on Twitter, providing backgrounds for diagnoses and recovery time for football injuries as they happen in real time.
Chao served as the Chargers team doctor from 1997 to 2013, but his time there is marked with troubling accusations and a handful of lawsuits. According to the San Diego Union Tribute, Chao has been sued for malpractice 20 times since 1998. At one point, the NFLPA called for him to be fired because of the increasing malpractice lawsuits.
When Chao finally stepped down in 2013, Chargers fans ?rejoiced.?

Orr’s agent said last week that there were up to 16 teams interested in Orr, so expect the free agency process to continue slowly.

PFF contradicting it self..

So the sixth-worst linebacker against the run had the seventh-best run stop percentage and “anchored a strong Ravens’ run d”?That pretty much says PFF has no idea if he's any good or not.

7th most may still be a low percentage of total plays still and may not be Tackles for loss but barely within the yardage for a run stop. and that stat could be him unblocked in space making the tackle to get the run stop which wouldn't be graded as high individually. He has problem with shedding blocks but he's good in space and is a sure tackler. He can cover too. Would need to know more about the grading

Has there been anything new on this guy?

Detroit seemed to like what they saw.
Colts did not.
Jets seemed okay.

And that's the last I have heard. I thought he had like 16 teams he was visiting.

I think the fire went out on this guy as soon as one bad report came up. And i'm going to guess that his agent was full of shit. 16 teams? Ya...ok lol. Gotta do work though...
