If they can get a chunk of what's owed in return that alone would be worth it I'm sure

There was no need to check with the 1st ump on that one miggy cuz the pitch itself was a strike

Anibal Sanchez posted his fourth consecutive solid start since returning from Triple-A Toledo, and this time his teammates got him a victory to go along with it.

The Tigers took two of three from the Giants and finished the nine-game homestand with a 5-4 record.

Sanchez pitched five scoreless innings before giving up two in the sixth. He struck out eight and didn't walk a batter.
In four starts since returning to Detroit on June 19, Sanchez has a 3.09 ERA in 23 1/3 innings while striking out 22 and walking just four.
He hasn't allowed a home run in his last 19 1/3 innings of work. He began the season by giving up nine home runs in his first 18 2/3 innings.
Sanchez has struck out at least five hitters in three of his four starts this season for the Tigers.
Sanchez has given the Tigers three consecutive quality starts. Sanchez has allowed eight earned runs on 16 hits and four walks in four starts for the Tigers. He has 22 strikeouts over 23 1/3 innings in that span.
Sanchez improved to 4-1 in six career starts against the Giants.
Sanchez had eight strikeouts, the most in a single start by him since August of last year. He allowed only five hits in putting together his second consecutive quality start two weeks after he returned from a realignment stint at Triple-A Toledo.
Sanchez threw a devilish mix of five pitches — fastball, sinker, slider, splitter, curveball — in taking a shutout into the sixth inning.
He lost it on a leadoff single and Joe Panik’s triple that just avoided first baseman Miguel Cabrera’s reach.

NOTABLE:
Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto was scratched before the game with an inner ear infection. His replacement, Chris Stratton, was making his first career start.

Tigers shortstop Dixon Machado hit his first career home run in the second. He had gone 162 plate appearances without a homer.
Upon returning to the dugout, Machado got the silent treatment, even from manager Brad Ausmus, who turned his head and didn't acknowledge him.
Finally, Nicholas Castellanos broke the impasse by going up to Machado and bear-hugging him.

Tigers outfielder Alex Presley had two hits and a walk in his first start since returning from the disabled list.
Presley, who played college ball at Ole Miss, reached on all three plate appearances against Stratton, who played at Mississippi State.

Tigers assistant athletic trainer Doug Teter was named to the American League staff next week's All-Star Game in Miami.

Upton drew a two-out walk in the first inning, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Miguel Cabrera, who was the team’s designated hitter.

Nick Castellanos led off the second with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Presley. Dixon Machado added a two-run home run for his first career home run in the majors.
Upton led off the third with a double and scored on a two-out single to right by Presley.

Castellanos added an RBI single to bring home J.D. Martinez in the eighth.
They got a final run in the eighth when J.D. Martinez singled, raced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Castellanos’ RBI single to center.
Castellanos finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Shane Greene (one inning, two strikeouts), Bruce Rondon (one inning, two strikeouts) and closer Justin Wilson (no hits, no walks, one strikeout) finished for the Tigers, who moved to 38-46 ahead of a trip to Cleveland for a weekend series against the Indians.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
Machado mash: Machado had 162 plate appearances over 64 Major League games without a home run, but he had been taking advantage of his limited at-bats, going 19-for-50 since the beginning of May. He turned on a Stratton fastball inside and sent it 384 feet to left field, according to Statcast™.
His Tigers teammates gave him the silent treatment upon his return to the dugout, but they eventually mobbed him near the helmet rack.

Scintillating Sanchez: Sanchez used everything -- from 93 mph fastballs to a 71 mph "mariposa" (butterfly) changeup -- to set a season high with eight strikeouts, but his last K was the biggest.
After the Giants scored twice in the sixth, Brandon Belt's double gave the them more life and presented Sanchez with trouble the third time through the order.
But with Jae-Gyun Hwang seemingly looking for another offspeed pitch, Sanchez fired a fastball at 93 mph past him to end the threat, save the bullpen for the seventh and seal Sanchez's third consecutive quality start.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers win over the giants.

Roars
Anibal Sanchez got the job done and had a final line of six innings, two runs, five eights, eight strikeouts, and no walks.

Dixon Machado hit his first home run in career at-bat number 146.

The bullpen retired all nine batters they faced — Shane Greene, Bruce Rondon, and Justin Wilson pitched a 1-2-3 inning each.

Hisses
James McCann went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Stats and stuff:
Detroit struck out 13 batters and walked none as a team today. It’s just the seventh time that has happened in franchise history.
