Three things to know about this game:
The Tigers have given Kluber trouble through the years. In two starts against Detroit this year, Kluber is 1-1 with a 10.61 ERA.
In 11 starts against all other teams, Kluber is 6-2 with a 1.94 ERA.
In 19 career appearances against Detroit, Kluber is 6-7 with a 4.59 ERA.

The heart of the Tigers' order all hit .300 or better in their career against Kluber.
Miguel Cabrera (.442) leads the way with six homers in 52 plate appearances, followed by Justin Upton (.385), Victor Martinez (.341), Nicholas Castellanos (.333), and J.D. Martinez (.308).

Fulmer has been one of the hardest pitchers to make quality contact against this season. Among 39 pitchers with at least 300 batted balls against them, Fulmer's average exit velocity of 85.4 mph ranks sixth-best, according to Statcast.
Fulmer's fastball, in particular, has been hard to touch. Among 125 starters with at least 50 fastballs put in play, his .228 expected batting average ranks 27th-best, according to Statcast.

SUNDAY'S BRIEFING:
1. Michael Fulmer and Corey Kluber were both invited to the All-Star game, but neither will pitch on Tuesday. Instead, they'll battle in the series finale on Sunday night in Cleveland. The Indians are going for the sweep.

2. There was a bit of depressing news at about 1:30 a.m. this morning when the Oakland Athletics finished off a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.
The Tigers are now tied for the worst record in the 15-team American League with the Chicago White Sox, who have been actively imploding their roster since the winter.

3. Goodbye, first half. Very few Tigers will miss you. A very long summer could loom ahead.

Really thought at the start of the year Castellanos would have a break out year at the plate, boy was i wrong, guy just can't lay off the sliders and breaking balls away. My guess is he can't pick up spin at all, would recommend he focus on pitch recognition this coming off season and next spring

Bases loaded, and they don't score.

That never happens to the Tigers.....smh

He's been very good at the plate this year except for May. One terrible month isn't enough for me to turn on him.

Tigers that consistanly hack at pitches out of the zone have driven me nuts for at least 5 years now, would like to see better pitch recognition and plate discipline

Tigers working on being 11 under .500 and 10 back of first at the break, worst first half since 2003...gawd awful team

Doesn't seem to matter where they put miggy in the lineup he always seems to be leading off a lot of innings in a given game.

This game has dragged on for too long miggy was 0-3 with two walks tonight. He's the only reason I still bother to watch any innings at all now so time for bed now that it's unlikely he'll have anymore at bats tonight

Hey.. We won. If I was 14 again I'd be happy.. Sometimes being an adult ruins it.

All the elements that had been absent during the recent 6-14 tumble were present on a getaway night Sunday at Progressive Field ? strong starting pitching, clutch work from the bullpen, fiercely competitive at-bats and timely hits.

NOTABLE:
Justin Upton left the bases loaded in back-to-back innings Sunday. He struck out in the fifth. In the sixth, the Indians chose to intentionally walk Alex Avila and let Dan Otero pitch to Upton with the bases loaded.
Upton drilled a ball up the middle that was speared on one bounce by second baseman Erik Gonzalez. The brilliant play saved two runs and tagged Upton with three more runners left on base.

When Ian Kinsler singled home Jose Iglesias in the third, it was the first Tigers' run since Friday night, a 15-inning scoreless span.

Iglesias went 3-for-3, with a big double in the third and then a fluky chopper off the plate in the sixth that went for an infield single and drove in a run.

Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall left the game in the third inning with a right calf injury. He was replaced by Brandon Guyer.
It was the second installment of bad injury news for the Indians in as many nights. Second baseman Jason Kipnis left Saturday's game with a hamstring injury and was placed on the 10-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game.

The win was pitched by Fulmer, who was strong over six innings before running out of steam in the seventh, allowing the Indians an opening against the back-end of the Tigers bullpen.

Fulmer allowed three runs ? two earned ? on seven hits, striking out one and walking one.

Lefty Justin Wilson closed that opening, entering in the bottom of the eighth inning with two runners on for a five-out save opportunity. Wilson relieved righty Shane Greene, who cleaned up Fulmer?s mess an inning earlier. Wilson loaded the bases with a walk but recorded two outs, the final on a groundout by Carlos Santana, and then sat the Indians down with relative ease in the ninth inning.
Wilson picked up his 10th save in 11 opportunities. It was the first time this season he recorded five outs.

The Tigers chased Indians ace Corey Kluber after five innings ? pushing his pitch count over 100 with some long, grinding at-bats ? and then broke a 1-1 tie with three runs off the Indians bullpen in the sixth.

Detroit staved off a series sweep and will enter the All-Star break nine games under the .500 mark at 39-48, eight games behind the Indians in the American League Central division and 6 1/2 games back of the league?s second wild-card spot.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Tigers capitalize post-Kluber: The Tigers had never worked 100 or more pitches out of Kluber before the sixth inning. By doing so Sunday, the Tigers forced the long end of the Indians' bullpen into action in the sixth, and they converted. Nick Goody threw just four of 13 pitches for strikes, walking two and allowing a single to load the bases. Presley had a late swing on a Dan Otero changeup but lined it down the left-field line for a two-run double ahead of Iglesias' high chopper to first for an RBI infield single. An inning later, Nicholas Castellanos fouled off six pitches from Otero before delivering a two-out RBI single.
"They put together some good at-bats," Kluber said. "I didn't have, I'd say, my best command tonight. But they put together a lot of tough at-bats, and they did a good job of extending some counts and had a lot of baserunners in a couple innings. I was able to keep it to just one run, but they were able to get the pitch count up pretty good."

Give me five: Wilson hadn't had a save of more than three outs since becoming Tigers closer, and he hadn't tried since May 16. But the lefty hadn't worked since Thursday and will have four days off for the All-Star break, so Ausmus called on him with one out in the eighth after back-to-back walks from Greene. Wilson retired Ramirez on a fielder's choice then walked Brandon Guyer to load the bases but stranded them with a Carlos Santana groundout. He worked around a Bradley Zimmer single in the ninth for a five-out save.
Justin Wilson had no career saves of more than three outs. He hadn't even tried since May 16 against the Orioles, when Chris Davis spoiled it with a game-tying homer. Even in his setup days, four-plus outs aren't in his history.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers win over the indians.

ROARS:
J.D. Martinez - there aren?t a lot of fast guys in the Tigers lineup, but Martinez showed serious hustle getting to first base in the sixth inning, keeping the Indians from collecting a double play. He also got super lucky on a stolen base pick off that missed, sending him to third base in the seventh.

Alex Presley with a juuuuuuust fair hit to left field took advantage of a change up from Dan Otero that didn?t drop, and managed to score two runs. This set the ball rolling in the sixth for the Tigers to take a much-needed lead in the game. He also got a hit in the seventh to advance Castellanos to third.

Nick Castellanos - showing more of the long at-bat discipline that helped the Tigers throughout the game, Castellanos was able to reward Martinez?s stolen base luck and turn it into another run.

Hisses
Tigers were unable to take advantage of a bases loaded situation in the fifth inning. Of course, they managed to turn things around in the sixth, loading the bases again and making the most of it.

A light in the background stalled the game in the seventh, creating a distraction to the middle infield and the pitcher. Progressive?s DJ had fun with it, playing ?Eye of the Tiger.? If we?re playing the conspiracy theory game, it seems likely that Ian Kinsler complained about the light in order to give Fulmer a breather after the Ramirez home run.

STREAKS & INFO:
This is the first time in 11 seasons the Tigers have gone into the All-Star break below the .500 mark. Thanks for that tidbit, ESPN.

The Tigers survived the first half. Time for a well-earned rest and reset for everyone over the break.

UP NEXT
Four days of vacation is up next for most of the Tigers, except Fulmer and outfielder Justin Upton, who are off to Miami for the All-Star Game. The Tigers resume play on Friday at Comerica Park against the Toronto Blue Jays.
