Yeah, so approximately 100% of the Michigan blogosphere has already tackled this, but Mark Dantonio had pointed words(!!!) for Michigan in the aftermath of yet another Spartan collapse:

"I find a lot of the things that they do amusing. They need to check themselves sometimes. Let's just remember pride comes before the fall." [please note that Dantonio was led into this: he was asked whether he found Hart's "little brother" comments amusing. Sort of like Hart, actually. -ed]
And then:
"I'm very proud the way our football team handled themselves after the game as well. You don't have to disrespect people. We'll come to play. We don't have to be disrespected. We don't have to disrespect people. If they want to make a mockery of it, so be it. Their time will come."
Indeed, Michigan State is truly the model for all those who would like to respect the game.

Meanwhile, Hoyer:
"Let's put it this way, if anybody hadn't taken this personal up until this point, it's personal now," Hoyer said. "It just shows what kind of class he has.

"Sooner or later, the little brother, you want to put us that way, you get pushed around enough, the little brother fights back and kicks the other brother's ass.
Oh, now it's personal? You mean it's unlike all those other games when a host of kids who never even got looked at by Michigan (save three or four per year) played their instate rival and then immediately collapsed afterward? Oh shit. We are in serious trouble now. It's personal. I am liquidating my assets and moving to Tahiti, as Michigan will never beat Michigan State again.

Dantonio again with my favorite quote from the whole kerfuffle:
"It's [hatred of Michigan] inbred in me," Dantonio said. "It exists in me and everybody who's a true Spartan, not the ones who give their donor seats to Michigan Wolverines."
Indeed.

I suppose I'm duty bound to give a reaction here, so here goes: OH MY GOD JLS HAS KILLED MARK DANTONIO AND IS WEARING HIS SKIN. IT'S GROSS! SO GROSSSSSS! Oh. Oh God. The dripping... the horrible dripping. Effluvia!

But seriously folks, the one thing the Michigan State program needed was a monomaniacal focus on Michigan. It needed a coach who would install a countdown clock to their eighth straight loss in the series. It needed a man who would stand up and say "you know what, guys? All those other games we play are stupid and we shouldn't try very hard in them." It needed a guy who would teach his resilient troops to follow his example by bitching to the assembled media a full two days after his team blew it again. It needed a man who could forge them into a cohesive unit capable of picking up critical personal fouls at the very worst time possible. See, the problem with Michigan State is that occasionally they enter the fourth quarter of games leading. And Michigan State needs a man who can blow that lead, preferably in really, really painful fashion.

Friends, Mark Dantonio is that man
.

I know, I know. You're probably wondering "what radical new direction will this knight errant take the hallowed Spartan program?" Well, let me tell you: every year Michigan State will jump out to a fast start by beating a bunch of awful nonconference teams. When they play at Notre Dame, they will win. Everyone will get all hyped up for the Michigan game, which they will lose. On the off chance they do not lose, they will arrange to lose to Indiana or Northwestern or some such team to restore the cosmic balance. After the Michigan game they will collapse wholesale. Sometimes they will go to a bowl in Detroit. Other times they will stay home and cry softly into their BEET MICHIGAN cardigans. They will never, ever go to the Rose Bowl, and every year MGoBlog will start its Michigan State preview the same way.

Yes, friends, times are a-changin' in East Lansing.

Oh how the tides have turned. It'll never get old kicking their arrogant asses. Dantonio still has a lot of coaching left in him. And if Narduzzi one day returns to lead the team Michigan will be in trouble for a long time. Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin will dominate the Big Ten for 10 years +.

What I find funny is how all the Michigan fans laughed at Dantonio and now they would die for a coach like him.

It is amazing what MD has done, to be fair this UM blogger thought that Dantonio was going to be just like the previous clowns like Saban, BW, and JLS. The football program and athletic department were broken and needed to be fixed, before we would lose a few games and quit, commit stupid penalties constantly, get in trouble off the field, and make dumb mistakes, it was SOS. Michigan is in a similar position now, they need a complete change of culture.

MD wasn't a savior for MSU, just a hard working coach who had a vision and rebuilt the program over years. He simply built a foundation and developed a program that would be stable for years to come.

boy this Mike Hart kid really got under your skin.

Damn right he did, I thought he was being a big asshole after a hard fought game between rivals, the MSU coaching staff thought the same thing.

I was really pissed after i read those comments but all's well that end's well though. I think that game and his reaction were a blessing in disguise.

To some degree, it's probably because he's a nobody. If Jake Long comes out talking trash, you kind of have to sit back and say, "Well, that dude is one of the best, I may not like him but I have to give him his props." Hart was a good but never great RB who fizzled in the NFL after never really winning anything in college. It sounds more arrogant because over time we see he never really had the skills to back up his attitude.

So if Mike Hart keeps his mouth shut, the rivalry remains as is? Not likely. It was transforming already. I wonder why what M players say about MSU matters to MSU in the first place. Even now. Or ever. And MSU ... ran up the score? 35 points is ... "running up the score?" Okay.

Michigan escaped several "less than a field goal wins" in the last 10 years. It hasnt been UM football in ages...

Next, OSU.

Charity started with 5 minutes left in the 3rd as you saw ,We played "hold on ball" at that point in the game, There was no running up the score and those who claim it was running up the score are sorely mistaken (not saying you did)

All it does if fan the flames of the rivalry which plays right into our hands.

Just wait, we'll have a new messiah coming soon and the false bravado will be back. I've heard the same things about Sam McGuffie, Rich Rod, Mike Barwis, Jabril Peppers, Shane Morris, Brady Hoke, etc. As soon as you get somone who can gut that program of all of the entitled cancer Michigan will then be back. You guys need players who are willing to work hard and earn their spot. They need to be back as far as winning football games, not back as far as winning press conferences or recruiting rankings. Thank god they play the games

I will never forget for as long as I live some kid I ran track with in HS telling me that Sam McGuffie would win "at least 2 Heisman trophies."

Maizenblue from the ESPN board said that 4 losses were a foregone conclusion since Michigan landed McGuffie.

there's a litany of former messiahs

I didn't realize that Mike Hart's comment lead directly to the hiring of Rich Rodriguez.

Every program has their slappies: Even MSU. The vast majority of the M people who gather on DSM are not of that ilk and that's no secret. As for the hype vs. results, well, thanks for the bulletin.

yes all fan bases do, I just think Michigan is always seraching for the next savior and tend to have great expectations for the unproven.
