Jim Caldwell?s time as Lions head coach should be over after Detroit?s performance against Cincinnati.
The Lions had the chance to make the playoffs, but didn?t get the job done against the lifeless Bengals. It?s time for a change.

Detroit Lions head coaching rumors already swirling.

Personally, I think Austin's overrated. He's done some good for the team, but these defenses consistently looks ill-prepared. Geo Bernard came in and wrecked this team. He's a nice RB, but that's about it.

If Caldwell goes, I want to see the entire coaching staff flushed.

He's not overrated he stinks.

Agree HC DC OC all need to go, I'd be ok with Patricia, would not be in board with Mcdainel

Does it have to be a Patriot? There's other good coordinators out there that could be a nice find. Imo, I prefer a good DC being HC and hiring a good difference maker as OC.

Austin had Suh in his first year, that's when the hype train started and it's been rolling ever since for whatever reason. The defense has been mediocre at best since Suh left (which I think partially proves that talent > all). Austin isn't anything special and he's just as expendable as the rest of the coaches.

Austin seems to be great at coaching his speciality which is secondary players. His front 7 needs work though. For too many weeks in a row the defense looked lost in the middle of this season and was responsible for a lot of the early leads teams had against us.

Defense went downhill when Ngata got injured. They went from one of the top run defenes to one of the worst.

I like Ngata a lot, but if he's the reason you go from the best to the worst, then the problems are a lot deeper than we think.

I'd also add that they didn't play anyone stellar before Ngata's injury.

Week 1: Arizona lost David Johnson halfway through
Week 2: Giants weren't strong to begin with, Darkwa emerged later in the season
Week 3: Atlanta has good RBs and ran all over Detroit
Week 4: Vikings lost Cook halfway through
Week 5: Panthers don't really have a conventional running game

Not saying that Ngata wasn't important, the stats support the impact of his loss, but the competition was questionable. It's easy to look good when your opponents have their own issues.

Just read a rumor that the lions are going to pursue Jon Gruden. I hope this is true. I know he likes Stafford and it would be nice to have someone that gets excited about the game instead of the deer in the headlight Caldwell.

Oh god no. That would be terrible. He's an awful coach who got lucky with a loaded team.

I would be in favor of that. that is exzaclty what we need here, a bat shit crazy guy who wouldn't be coaching not to lose all the time.

Didn't they bring in a bunch of Veterans also that season? Dungy couldn't get them over the top so they traded for Gruden , and he won the super bowl with Brad Freaking Johnson . He is better the Caldwell but then that is not saying much. His energy would be welcomed..

Jon Gruden.. There wasn't a QB he didn't like.

Though why would a guy come back to coaching after all these years just to go to Detroit.
