Red Wings 3 Panthers 2 Shootout Final

Maybe Gus will wake up and play this good the rest of the season! .

To be fair, Gus was a ghost most of the game. However, on that goal his playing style was far more familiar to his rookie season.

As for the shootouts, already covered that before. Majority of blame goes to goalies. Average is 67% for goalies to make a stop. If goalies provide above average save % in shootout the team statistically has a much higher chance of winning.

Coincidentally Detroit was losing all the shootouts when Howard couldn't stop any breakaway.

You also had a Datsyuk who became complacent and had 2.5 moves which every goalie/team had scouted beforehand. That is the reason why his shootout success started falling last few years. Normally was around 50%, his last 4 seasons was between 25-30%

To be fair, Detroit should consider themselves lucky to escape with the win.

Dadonov was skating circles around the Wings most of the first 45-50 minutes. Not to mention that disallowed goal for the Panthers. Which, yes there was goalie interference, but no it had no impact on the play. Howard thought the puck was underneath him. It was to the right of the net and the shot bounced off Nyquist's skate. Even had Howard not been interfered with, he had no idea where the puck was and any attempt to make a save would be too little too late.
