Porcello opts out of contract, arby eligible

"He is now eligible for four years of arbitration, but will remain under team control through 2015."

"Since the arbitration process was instituted in 1974, the Tigers have lost 70 percent of their hearings -- a major league worst. The club has won only six of its past 20 hearings."

I would post that Rick needs to show some improvement next season, if he hopes to be offered an extension, being that DD has been burned pretty damned bad, esp by certain ex-Tigers SPs, ie...Nate (Skate) Robertson, Jeremy "Bondageman" and (Whachoo walkin' 'bout) Willis, but being that the Tigers have somewhat of a relative scarcity of blue-chip, close to MLB-ready hurlers in the minors, and this despite their tendency to draft power pitching, perhaps Porcello will be offered an extension regardless of recent history, or unless the Tigers have plans to trade him with or w/o other players in an effort to try to fix their still halfway-shitty infield (at least offensively, anyway)

Dunno why they picked up Patterson, as he seems to be likely even worse at the plate than Wilson "Benchamitt" or Adam "Neverhitt" was, with his Dunn-like (w/o the power).180 BA last season with the Padres, albeit in a small-sample-sized 103 PAs, His "best" season was in '09 with the A's when he batted, .287, but again only in 39 games and 110 PAs..whatever.
