Tigers @ Twins 9-22-16 Game 151

Nice to be able to use a mop up guy in a win when you have another game to play again today.

Question to board. Is it possible to have a platoon ar catcher? Seems like the way to go with McCann. Or do you hope BM makes some adjustments and hits Rhp better next season ?

I think they stick with McCann for 2/3 to 3/4 of the games, with a LH bat backup catcher. He's still developing as a hitter and leads the league in throwing out runners.

Need to get JV some run support tonight, then keep it going this weekend against KC.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers 9 - 2 win over the twins.

Anibal Sanchez — Allowed only a solo home run in five innings of work while striking out four.

Justin Upton — DINGER! He walked twice and scored two runs.

Victor Martinez -- 3-run shot in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter.

All 20 fans in attendance — You made your voices heard!

Announced paid attendance today: 18,374.
Best guess for fans in the seats: 750.

Victor Martinez is the first Tiger to hit 3 pinch hit home runs in a season since Larry Herndon in 1986.

The Tigers have 4 players with 25-or-more home runs in a season for the first time in franchise history. Cabrera, Kinsler, Upton, Victor Martinez.

Half of Upton's 26 home runs this season have been hit since Aug. 21, a 13-homer outburst over just 94 at-bats. But it's about more than quantity.
Six of Upton's last 13 home runs entering Thursday's nightcap had been hit in the sixth inning or later. Five of those six either tied the game or pulled Detroit ahead. Four others helped blow games open, including the two-run homer he hit off Cleveland's Trevor Bauer on Sunday.
