Well I guess technically he never became a Michigan man. He "went straight to Cooperstown," skipping Michigan and instead doing a stint in New York per the advice of some scout, I can't remember exactly the scouts name.

Not entirely unlike what my late friend on the Michigan faculty, dance instructor Christopher Flynn, once said to Madonna - "leave Michigan and just go straight to New York."

I guess skipping Michigan worked out OK for both of them.

EDIT: Dick Groch I guess is the guy's name, he was the area scout for the Yankees at the time.

But he didn't die of AIDS like Christopher Flynn did, and Jeter never founded an AIDS walk for him.

Madonna had never gotten any recognition from UM, as far as I know.

I wonder how her daughter is doing there?
