Colorado Rockies vs. Detroit Tigers, at Coors Field, August 28, 2017 Matchups.
Baseball Reference

Three things to know
Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann is 6-0 with a 2.48 ERA lifetime against the Rockies from his years with the Washington Nationals. Three of those wins are at Coors Field, where he gave up 36 hits -- including five home runs -- over 27 2/3 innings.

The Tigers are without both their DH slot and their DH for this series. Victor Martinez is back in Detroit for tests after being hospitalized Saturday night with an irregular heartbeat. He went on the 10-day disabled list Sunday.

The Rockies return home with their closer situation in flux. Manager Bud Black said Sunday, "We're going to navigate" the ninth inning, but stopped short of removing struggling Greg Holland from the role.

He said he likes it here and it's a lot of money but any chance Upton bolts?

Elivs lolligags and Blackman tags up from first on a rotiune fly to right. Bunch of lolligaggers

Miggy leaves the game with an injured back.

Maybe this is where he takes the suspension as well.

Welp miggy is out hicks in at first, I think miggy tweaked his back on a swing and miss in his last at bat. Might just as well start the 7 gamer now

There is a good chance he walks. He is 30-years old coming off a "career" year. He has 4 years, at $22 Mil a year remaining. Can he get more than $88 Mil over the next 4 years from another team? Or even more years?

And if he plays out his contract, he would be 34 when he negotiates the next one.

Now, anything is likely. But having had the year he has had increased the odds of him leaving. Had he repeated last year stats, he would have most likely stayed put.

Nicholas Castellanos had three hits, including a two-run triple, and Jordan Zimmermann rebounded from early trouble to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Monday night.

Zimmermann (8-11) went five innings and allowed three runs -- all in the second inning. He settled down to move his career mark to 7-0 against the Rockies in 11 career starts.

Shane Greene struck out two of three in the ninth for his sixth save.
He fanned Mark Reynolds to end the game.
In a season in which the Tigers? bullpen has been very bad, five relievers combined to pitch four shutout innings in what amounted to a pitcher?s duel at baseball?s most offensive ballpark.
Warwick Saupold, Daniel Stumpf, Drew VerHagen, Alex Wilson, and evolving put-away closer Shane Greene shut out the Rockies over the final four innings.

The Tigers beat the Rockies, 4-3.

Trailing 3-2 in the third, Castellanos laced a two-run triple into the corner to give the Tigers a lead they wouldn't relinquish. It was Castellanos' AL-leading 10th triple of the season. He also had an RBI single in the first.

Cabrera left the game with lower back tightness after striking out in the top of the fifth inning. Both he and Ausmus said it was due in large part to standing around defensively in the long three innings to start the game.
?Part of my year,? Cabrera said.
There?s a possibility he could drop the appeal for his seven-game suspension and use that as an avenue to rest the back.

Zimmermann threw 28 pitches in a scoreless first, got tattooed for four hits and three runs in the second, and never had a clean 1-2-3 inning as he allowed nine hits and all three Rockies runs.
But in throwing 103 pitches, he managed to make it through five innings and get a rare victory, his eighth of the season, and against a team, and at a ballpark where he?s never lost, including during his years in the National League.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers win over the rockies.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Stumpf-ed: Trailing 4-3 in the sixth, the Rockies had a big chance to retake the lead. Nolan Arenado, who entered Monday hitting .406 with runners in scoring position, came up with the bases loaded and one out. But Tigers reliever Warwick Saupold got Arenado to fish on a 90-mph slider out of the zone, and Daniel Stumpf got the next batter, Gerardo Parra, swinging. The Rockies have struggled with RISP all month and went 1-for-7 Monday.

Castellan-Yes: Castellanos' biggest hit of the night came in the third inning. He drove a two-run triple into the left-field corner as the Tigers took a 4-3 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Castellanos' three-base knock came after the Rockies had scored three in the second to take a 3-2 advantage. Senzatela walked the two batters right before Castellanos, earning himself a mound visit from Black.
"He swung the ball well, got some big hits," Ausmus said of Castellanos' 3-for-4, three-RBI night. "He even hit the ball hard when he made outs."

ROARS:
The bullpen: Four scoreless innings at Coors Field is no small feat.

Nicholas Castellanos: Not only did he drive in the game-winning run, but
Castellanos is now the first Tigers third baseman in over a century to collect 10 triples in a single season.

Justin Upton: He scored twice and drove in a run of his own.

HISSES:
Injuries:

STATS AND INFO:
Castellanos is the first Tigers third baseman with 10 triples in a season since Ossie Vitt (remember him?) did so in 1916.
