Latest from rumour mill Toronto has interest in Smith/Sheahan.

Sheahan (the purple teletubby) has potential to be a 30-40 point a season player who has struggled to score this season. Given Detroit's current position, if Toronto wants him I'd say let em have him.

While Smith is an advanced stat darling, his inability to handle passes or the puck in his own zone are reason enough for me to get rid of him. Hopefully Holland finds them both new teams.

Unrelated, with Bishop moving to LA the chances of a Howard/Mrazek move just went down.

Potentially 3-4 teams looking at Sheahan per Darren Dreger.

Would be nice to get a 1st for Vanek. I mean Eaves went for a 2nd that can turn into a 1st. Especially given his extremely cap friendly contract.

Also Toronto added Brian Boyle a towering center so considering current interest in Sheahan to be nil.

Really hoping lack of news has to do with good control of information rather than lack of interest in making trades. The team is second from last in the entire league and more than 10 points out of a playoff spot. If ever there was a year to sell, it's right now.

Seems like all of these players are fetching more than they're worth. Is the NHL draft devoid of any real talent the next two years? Seems teams are eager to deal away picks.

That is a great haul for Smith far more than he is worth. Perhaps Holland drove up the price with all the talk of trying to retain Smith.

Smith looks great from analytics perspective, but if you watch him actually play there are way too many basic deficiencies in his game.

Smith is not a long-term solution and he'll not get better with age, so trading him was an improvement.

Ott to Montreal for 6th rounder in 2018 per the Wings/Vancouver broadcast will try to find a link confirming deal.

Shouldn't even have brought Ott to the team in the first place.

Well there is a short checklist which makes Holland extremely giddy;

1. Is player from Michigan (or surrounding area, or even played/visited Michigan).

Yes, from across the river and played for Windsor Spitfires in the barn where Detroit spent 1 season in the 1920s.

2. Is player an over the hill veteran?

Yes, Ott hasen't had an offensively productive season since the lockout shortened season of 2012-13.

To be fair, 40 points is bad for a forward playing 18+ minutes, stares at Justin Abdelkader.

3. Can the player be described as gritty or a defensive specialist? (optional)

Yes, hitting, fighting, faceoffs, and penalty killing are the specialty of Ott. Not to mention chirping the other team.

To be fair, players who win 55+% of faceoffs are rare in the NHL. Which you know, makes perfect sense why he is put on the Wing

There is 0 chance Holland could resist given Ott was available and fit within cap.

Yeah I just saw the deal.. At least it is something. Keep dealing Holland and bring up the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!
