EPA Funding to be Cut by 97 Percent

Republicans have never cared about the environment and or working conditions for the employees. Nothing new here except that Trump and his Billionare swamp critter cabinet members and friends are going to take it to scorch earth levels. Republicans are such hypocrites. Shame nornal Americans, and world has to pay sadly.

their proposal is generally to cut all government spending besides medicare, medicaid, and social security (which is not actually government spending; it comes from its own pool of funds we all pay into) and hand all that money right to the Pentagon, to turn around and hand it to defense contractors that hire admirals and generals when they "retire" from government service, and pay them high-six, seven-figure salaries to play golf and use their connections to get more money from the government for bloated defense projects that often do not work, and are redundant anyway.

it's called "keeping us safe."

We don't need an environment. We just found 7 more earths we can destroy 40 light years away. Duh...

Let's see if the EPA can do more with less like the rest of us. 43% of its budget is allocated to water quality. Maybe it can divert funding from enforcement to prevention. It's got $6 BILLION to spend. Let's find out what it does with that money now.

Dude, take away 97 percent of ANYTHING and you are basically crippled. You think they can do nearly the amount of work they do on the Great Lakes cleansing projects with chump change??

Water sheds, and a Aquifers all over this country are getting worst and Trump wants to slash regulations so companies can pollute again and his supporters turn a blind eye at it. Amazing.

I want to see what the EPA can do with $6,000,000,000.

EPA spends $800,000,000 a year on enforcement. I submit that it can re-allocate the $6,000,000,000 to prioritize its priorities.

And the money that's gained from this cut, where do you think that's going to go? Somewhere productive??

You greatly underestimate the amount needed to maintain these ecosystems. All that's happening is the environmental agencies are having their legs taken out so government buddies and other people get their paydays. Big shock.

I contend we do not know what is "needed" to maintain these ecosystems. Let's see what the present budget can accomplish.

Umm....flints water wasnt quality with a full budget.

Ecosystems maintain themselves. They maintain themselves through self adjustment. That's what makes them ecosystems.

Which "full budget?" 2010's? 2015's? The EPA delayed issuing an emergency order for seven months after it had the necessary data to announce it! Was that because its budget in 2015 was $2 Billion less than in 2010?

Let's cut defense spending of the Air Force by about 97%. Let's see if they can do more with less like the rest of us.

No shot. We are going to have the biggest GD military in the history of time.

That would be true in 2,000,000 BC when you didn't have man-made intervention. Ecosystems are now attached at the hip to human consumerism.

I think that maybe that was the sub-sub-sub-text I was going for.

If you were, than you're ignorant on the subject matter. You can't just pollute, deforest, and destroy all you want and just shrug it off like "Oh, ecosystems self maintain. No big deal. Maybe we'll pray the pollution away."

Humans do catastrophic damage daily to the Earth. You want to talk this big game about 'prevention' instead of enforcement. Take a look around. Have you not been paying attention? Pipe lines, Nestle sucking the Great Lakes dry, river/stream waste from coal mining operation being given the green light (again)?? Big money doesn't give two shits about the environment, have you checked who's running this country now?

You want the EPA to prevent problems when the very people that they're fighting against are gutting their efforts? Unreal.
