RIP. Back in the day when you could watch big fights on TV, for free -- I caught them all. He is the greatest..

wow, no way. i thought he was older than that, but i guess he was still pretty young in the 60's.

Yes.

Anybody alive today-for example me-and including anyone who was alive today but also just died today, for example Muhammad Ali-was still pretty young in the 60s.

Your inductive reasoning shows your B1G education shining through.

Everybody alive today-including those who just died today-was relatively a lot younger 50 years ago, if they were already alive back then.

Rip Muhammad.. didnt he have a compound in Michigan for some time that he stayed at ?

This story will eclipse, IMO, any modern tribute to Ali.

EDIT ... Excerpt:

Across the ring Joe Frazier was wearing trunks that seemed to have been cut from a farmer's overalls. He was darkly tense, bobbing up and down as if trying to start a cold motor inside himself. Hatred had never been a part of him, but words like "gorilla," "ugly," "ignorant"—all the cruelty of Ali's endless vilifications—had finally bitten deeply into his soul. He was there not seeking victory alone; he wanted to take Ali's heart out and then crush it slowly in his hands. One thought of the moment days before, when Ali and Frazier with their handlers between them were walking out of the Malacanang Palace, and Frazier said to Ali, leaning over and measuring each word, "I'm gonna whup your half-breed ass."

Ali trash talked and insulted every opponent just like Trump does. His name for Liston was "The Bear" and Forman was "The Mummy."

He figured Frazier and everybody would understand it was part of the show and not take it seriously.

Everybody already knows this story.

I don't agree that everyone knows what was written in the included link. And I am not convinced that it was all an "act".

This is not showmanship on Ali's part.

?Joe Frazier is an Uncle Tom. He works for the enemy,? Ali taunted.

?Joe Frazier is an Uncle Tom. He works for the enemy,? Ali taunted.

In 2001, though, Ali apologized during a New York Times interview. ?In a way, Joe?s right. I said a lot of things in the heat of the moment that I shouldn?t have said,? Ali reflected. ?I apologize for that. I?m sorry.? By the end of the decade, Frazier?s bitterness had finally begun to subside. ?I forgive him, sure,? Frazier told Britain?s Daily Telegraph in a 2008 interview. After Frazier?s death from liver cancer in 2011, Ali was among the mourners at a private family service. ?The world has lost a great champion,? Ali said. ?I will always remember Joe with respect and admiration.?

Every report of Ali's life I've heard since he died has referenced the contentiousness and vitriol between Ali and Frazier, and referred specifically to "gorilla" and "Uncle Tom (Frazier insisted to addressing and referring to Ali as "Clay" on the other hand)."

I also don't believe it was all an act.

A lot of people characterize their relationship as being one of hatred; I heard a guy who used to work on the Mike Douglas show - unfortunately, I didn't get his name - on which Frazier and Ali appeared together a number of times, and he described their relationship - I'm going to paraphrase here - as being more stormy and complicated.

When your objective is to physically hurt the guy across the ring from you, things will tend to get heated from time to time. Ali's rhetoric was 90% promotion, he was a master at it. The other 10%? You probably pissed him off, that's on you imo.
