Lions were 8-4 and the Browns were 9-2-1 and favored by 3 at Briggs stadium .lions tied with the Rams at 8-4 so had to win a playoff game to play in the championship game . Lions beat the 49er's 31-27 at Kezar stadium after trailing 24-7 at halftime, and 27-7 in the third .They did all of this with backup qb Tobin Rote who was replacing the injured Bobby Layne (broken ankle). Layne broke his ankle in a 20-7 win verses Cleveland on December 22nd. Tobin won games at Chicago, and the playoff comeback in San Francisco, and the demolition of the Browns in the title game 59-14. After week nine the lions were 5-4. They won thier next five games to win the title. Tobin has a great game and coach Wilson wins title in his first year at the helm. The score was Paul Brown's worst ever up to that point.
