Interesting to see just how blindsided people were by this. It's a scary thing, especially if you have kids.

The "blind-sided" part involves many up the PSU brass' ladder concealing the truth for nearly two decades, as well as maybe murder, bribes, and payoffs, and is a direct result of avoiding potentially ruined careers, losing untold millions in lawsuits, college funding and alumni donations, and the resulting utter destruction of the school's sports recruitment programs, and perhaps a few local leaders have some culpability in this mess as well in the surrounding community.

School officials delayed the inevitable for as long as possible, and by whatever means was apparently necessary to do so. Those directly involved in the operation of Sandusky's "second mile" program also should be considered suspects, IF it (or some victims themselves testify/reveal) comes out later that some young boys in the program were indeed being pimped out to wealthy university donors and/or alumni.

"They tend to elicit a fair amount of allegiance with the children that they interact with, which makes it easier for them to escape detection."

That, combined with the hundreds of "Jerrys" kids in the "second mile" program who fortunately escaped his predatory clutches, and went on to become successful adults, made the few that became victims of Sandusky, as well as perhaps some donors and/or alumni look less than credible, and alone would have had a hard time convincing anyone that they had been molested, absent any adult witnesses and/or corroborating hard evidence of being sexually abused.
